During an interview with The Telegraph, Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed a few unknown details aboutZelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Since the release ofZelda: Tears of the Kingdom, progressively more players have asked what happened to the Sheikah tech present inBreath of the Wild. According to Fujibayashi, it disappeared at theconclusion ofBreath of the Wildwhen players defeat Calamity Ganon. With the Calamity gone at the end of the game, the land of Hyrule was cleansed, and many of its inhabitants moved on without searching for the lost tech. Maintaining that the Sheikah tech is a mystery, Fujibayashi stated that no one “knows the mechanism” or “why they disappeared.”

Considering how manyZelda: Breath of the Wildcharacters were in contact with the Sheikah technology, some players may wonder why they seemingly forgot about it. The frequency of strange occurrences in Hyrule has played a role in the characters ignoring its disappearance. Another reason theZelda: Tears of the Kingdomcharactersare unconcerned with the Sheikah tech is due to how distinct the Hyrule civilizations are from those inBreath of the Wild. Hidemaro Fujibayashi stated that no one in Hyrule “has tried to explore the matter further” since the defeat of Calamity, leaving the topic mostly ignored in the sequel.

Although many players have questioned the loss ofZelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Sheikah technology, some may be disappointed by the explanation for it. While Sheikah tech has disappeared for now, it’s unclear if Nintendo intends to revisit the concept in a futureLegend of Zeldagame.
