At Full Circle, Zack Snyder encouraged fans to move forward with the ‘Sell Snyderverse to Netflix’ initiative. Full Circle was a weekend-long event that raised funds for AFSP. At the event, Snyder and special guests, including surprise appearances from Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Chris Terrio, watched the Snyderverse trilogy on the big screen with fans and hosted a Q&A that followed each film.Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslavhired James Gunn and Peter Safranto steer the DCEU ship into the DCU reboot, whose aim is to move away from the Snyderverse. As a result, Snyder’s vision for DC remains unfinished following the events ofZack Snyder’sJustice League, leaving Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie featuring Deathstroke,Justice League 2,Justice League 3, and evenWonder Woman 3andMan of Steel 2on the cutting room floor. Even so, the fans found a way to recontextualize the conversation around Zaslav and Safran’s new business strategy to lease DC IP to streaming services. The new campaign to ‘sell the Snyderverse to Netflix’ has garnered support from Forbes and Snyder’s Green Lantern, Wayne T. Carr. After Full Circle, the initiative gained support from the director himself.RELATED:DC Fans Campaign for the SnyderVerse on NetflixDuring the poster signing, Snyder did the unexpected when a key figure of the campaign,Skiiwalker Tha Jedi, asked the director to sign the Netflix hashtag on his poster. Instead, Snyder wrote “#Snyderverse Sell It!” to likely avoid calling out Netflix, specifically. Snyder could have declined or said that he disapproved of the campaign, which might have immediately stopped the movement, but fortunately for them, this was not the case. The following day, during the Q&A forZack Snyder’s Justice League, Skiiwalker was chosen by Snyder in a crowd full of fans and asked Snyder if he would be “overjoyed” to have theopportunity to restore the Snyderverseoutside of WBD. Snyder replied, “of course I would” in a heartfelt answer.
The campaign is aimed at Netflix since it makes the most sense, seeing as how Snyder is developing multiple franchises with them, includingthe upcomingRebel Moon. However, the core message of the initiative is still aimed at any streaming platform.Batman: Caped Crusadermoved to Amazon andDead Boy Detectiveto Netflix, so as Zaslav said, WBD is “open for business.”
Zack and Deborah Snyder have stated that Warner Bros. studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy played a significant role in this event, revealing the Snyders still have support at WBD. There could be an incentive from the studio to lease the rights of its DC characters to a third party for Snyder to continue the Snyderverse under thenew DC Elseworld Label, similar to whatThe BatmanandJokerfall under, but whether third parties are interested is still to be determined. The last thing DC Studios CEO James Gunn said about the initiative, after calling it “the wackiest hashtag ever,” was that “Netflix hasn’t asked.”
