World of Warcraft: Shadowlandswill soon be bringing back the Mage Tower, a popular feature from theWorld of Warcraft: Legionexpansion. The feature will be returning as part of a rotatingLegiontime walking weekly event that allows players to queue forLegiondungeons and receive current-level rewards.
In Patch 9.1.5,Legiontime walking will be unlocked, allowing the champions of Azeroth to revisit the Mage Tower and attempt its challenge throughout the event duration. This isn’t the onlyfeatureWorld of Warcraftdevelopers are tweakingat the moment, but it is likely to be a popular one.

Reportedly, the Mage Tower will function similarly to the way it did back inWorld of Warcraft: Legion, complete with the original seven Challenges grouped by player specialization. Each Challenge will feature a series of solo encounters that must be survived completely to earn brand-new rewards. The developers decided not to invalidate the efforts of players who cleared the Mage Tower duringLegion, which means that this iteration of the Mage Tower will come with all-new prizes to win, including a recolored Legion armor set unique to each class – and a unique, account-wide flying mount in the Soaring Spelltome for players who clear all seven Challenges across multiple characters.
World of WarcraftDruidsmay be especially excited about the return of the Mage Tower, as this decision heralds the first return of the werebear animal-form for Guardian specialization Druids. This skin came with unique animations, and while the original won’t be returning, Druids will have access to a new, fel-themed version of the werebear form. The new skin is an enormous black-furred bear with an apelike stance, covered from head to toe in twisting green markings that appear to send eerie sparks up into the air. According to the developers, the fel-themed werebear form was designed specifically to ensure it was easy to distinguish between the new skin and the original one.
Patch 9.1.5 will also continue Blizzard’s quest to remove and changeinappropriate imagery and wording inWorld of Warcraft. This decision came in the wake of the Activision Blizzard Lawsuit, which has increased in scope recently. These changes may seem minor or even unnecessary, but they appear to be motivated byWorld of Warcraftdevelopers trying to atone for their treatment of women and other minorities in the past. The patch does not currently have a release date, but it can be found on the game’s public test realm.
