Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream, only recently went live. However,World of Warcrafthas already teased three more patches coming inDragonflightbeforeThe War Within. The first of these content updates is called Seeds of Renewal, and it will introduce new gameplay content, customizations, and Dragonriding across oldWorld of Warcraftzones.
However, one of the most exciting new features coming in this update is called Dragonflight Follower Dungeons. According totheWorld of Warcraftblog introducing Seeds of Renewal, players can “Tank, heal, and DPS alongside follower NPC companions that join you on your Dungeon adventures. They will be available in all eight Normal Dragonflight Dungeons and can scale from 1–4 players. These companions will allow players to learn aboutDragonflightdungeons at their own pace and provide the freedom to experiment and customize their Party makeup.” Fans familiar withFinal Fantasy 14couldn’t help but notice this new feature sounded strikingly similar to the Duty Support system.

The Duty Support system is a relatively new feature inFinal Fantasy 14. Originally introduced inShadowbringersas the Trust system, this feature allows players to venture into dungeons that are required to complete in the Main Scenario with a team of NPCs, most of whom are important story characters. Over the course of the post-Endwalkerpatches,Final Fantasy 14expanded the Duty Support systemto include every story dungeon fromA Realm RebornthroughStormbloodas well, enabling players to tackle the entire Main Scenario almost completely solo.
It remains to be seen how exactly the Follower Dungeons will work inWorld of Warcraft. In Seeds of Renewal, it seems these companions will only be available forNormalDragonflightdungeons, but players can use them even with a partial group of real players, allowing for greater versatility and shorter queue times. Players can expect to learn more about this system when it comes to the Public Test Realm.
Many fans are excited to see howWorld of Warcraftimplements the Follower Dungeon system. Duty Support inFinal Fantasy 14has been a game-changer for many players and allowed fans to grow even closer to beloved NPCs. Many hopeWorld of Warcraftiterates on the Follower Dungeon system further, possibly even requiring some lore-heavy dungeons to be completed in the main story to provide further context. If they eventually add the functionality, players would love the chance to bring iconicWorld of Warcraftcharacters–or perhaps their own alts via thenew Warbands system inThe War Within–into dungeons in the future as well. While the feature has only just been introduced, it already seems to have endless possibilities inWorld of Warcraft.
