World of Warcraftmay be bringing Sylvanas back in the nextDragonflightupdate. If this recently-discovered evidence does indicate the former Banshee Queen is returning, it will likely be a part of the Forsaken Heritage quest coming in theWorld of Warcraftpatch.

Sylvanas Windrunner is one of the mostpolarizing and iconic characters inWorld of Warcraft. Though her loose moral code attracted myriad fans and critics beforehand, her actions inBattle for AzerothandShadowlands–the Burning of Teldrassil, her betrayal of the Forsaken and the Horde, and her partnership with the Jailer in particular–turned her into the most controversial character inWorld of Warcraft.

Now, it seems like Sylvanas might be making a return in some form inDragonflight. Theformer Banshee Queen was last seen inWorld of Warcraftafter Tyrande sentenced her to bring back every soul from the Maw as penance. However, Patch 10.1.7, Fury Incarnate, is adding a Heritage Armor quest for the Forsaken–and a new spell discovered in the Public Test Realm simply called Sylvanas suggests the Dark Lady could be involved in it.

The new patch also features files for banners and tabards with two different sets oficonography for the Forsaken inWorld of Warcraft. Some are sporting the silver skull they turned to after the Banshee Queen’s betrayal, but others still have the Icon of Torment; the mask heraldry associated with Sylvanas’ Forsaken. This has sparked speculation on if the Forsaken Heritage Armor quest will involve a schism between Sylvanas loyalists and those who seek to support the new Desolate Council.

It was inevitable that Sylvanas would appear inWorld of Warcraft’s Forsaken Heritage questin some fashion. The faction was literally created by the Banshee Queen when she liberated her fellow undead from Scourge control. As one of their leaders in life, Sylvanas was even a major part of the Blood Elf Heritage Armor quest. While her involvement seems inevitable, it remains to be seen to what degree she will appear.

Either way,World of Warcraftfans are holding their breath in anticipation of the new Forsaken Heritage quest. Sylvanas fans are praying for the Dark Lady’s return, while those tired of the Banshee Queen hope she is only involved in spirit, rather than in person. Between Sylvanas, Calia Menethil, and the Night Elf Dark Rangers, this questline is a minefield of controversy. Hopefully, Blizzard can navigate it and give players a story as satisfying as otherHeritage quests inWorld of Warcraft.
