Summary

One of the best things about the gaming industry is just how many different types of players there are, and how many different ways they can all experience the same game. For instance, while many players will be happy taking their time with a 20-hour single-player story, enjoying it at their own pace, many other players will try and zip through the same story as fast as possible, likely in fear of spoilers. And then there are those players who seek to not only enjoy the game’s story, but complete everything it has to offer and earn that coveted Platinum Trophy. Usually, thesePlatinum Trophy huntersare in the minority, but when it comes toMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is a really great game, featuring improved combat and traversal mechanics, new and returning villains, intriguing character dynamics, and engaging side activities. For many fans,Spider-Man 2offers everything that they’d hoped for and more. It’s only natural, then, that many fans would want to stay in the world for as long as possible, but withMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s main storyonly being around 15 hours long, many players have decided to take the plunge and go for that Platinum Trophy, which offers yet another incredibly rewarding journey from Insomniac.

What Makes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Platinum Journey So Captivating

Insomniac has a long history of producing games with great Platinum journeys. At least since the release ofthe firstMarvel’s Spider-Manin 2018, Insomniac has always made its Platinum Trophy genuinely rewarding to achieve, all while making it a simple and enjoyable process from start to finish. In most cases, players will have earned the majority of trophies in Insomniac’s games by just beating the main story and playing their own way. Then there are usually a handful of trophies that ask players to complete a few fun little Easter eggs that take no time at all, and the final lot tend to be earning 100% completion with things like character upgrades and open-world activities which may seem like a daunting task at first, but somehow never feels like one in actuality.

That’s exactly the case withMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, which follows Insomniac’s recent Platinum Trophy formula to create maybe its most rewarding one yet. Getting 100% completion inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2never feels like a chore, and that’s no easy feat for Insomniac to achieve. With some incredibly satisfying traversal and combat mechanics, the moment-to-moment gameplay ofSpider-Man 2just feels so good that players want to keep existing in this world for as long as possible, and along the way they end up completing the vast majority of the game’s trophy list.

When it comes to completingSpider-Man 2’s open-world, the experience stays equally as rewarding. For every Spider-Bot that the player picks up, Hunter drone they track down, or Symbiote Nest they destroy, they’re constantly rewarded, whether it’s with resources that players can use to upgrade their character or unlock new suits, or teases for future series villains. Every minute action inSpider-Man 2feels like it’s rewarding, and each one only continues to encourage gamers to keep playing in Insomniac’s world for a little bit longer, inching closer to the Platinum each time.

It also helps thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s trophy list doesn’t feature any of the usual pitfalls that most other open-world games have nowadays. Unlike other open-world titles,Spider-Man 2’s trophy list only asks that players complete the story once on any difficulty, and doesn’t contain any trophies that require players to hunt down hundreds of the same type of collectible.Spider-Man 2’s trophy list also contains no missable trophies, meaning that players don’t really need to plan ahead, and can instead take the Platinum journey at their own pace.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Platinuminstead encourages players to see everything that the game has to offer, and it delivers a satisfying sense of finality when it’s all done.
