Over the last few years, there have been many debates pertaining to the next possible member of the Straw Hats. Many of these debates started after the rest of the Straw Hats reached Zou. The main reason for these debates was Carrot. As Luffy and co. sailed to Big Mom’s territory, Carrot followed them secretly. With her adorable personality, Carrot became an instant hit withOne Piecefans.
The best thing about Carrot is that not only does she bring cuteness, but she is also a good fighter. At one point, almost everyOne Piecefan was confident that Carrot would become one of the Straw Hats, but now that dream hangs in jeopardy due to Yamato. In the last few chapters, it has become very likely thatYamato will be joining the crew, which raises serious questions over Carrot’s future.

Yamato’s Role In The Arc
Both Carrot and Yamato have played important roles in the series. Yamato was only introduced inthe Wano Country arc, but his contribution cannot be overlooked. Despite being the son of Kaido, Yamato detested him and even fought against him. This is easily one ofYamato’s biggest contributions in the arc. At that particular moment, Luffy was struggling, and he couldn’t continue fighting, so Yamato came in at the right time.
Then he clashed against his father for a while and this was enough for Luffy to get back to his feet and get back to fighting Kaido. After helping Luffy, Yamato had another big task, which was to prevent Kanjuro’s Kazenbo from reaching the weapon’s armory that was located at the bottom of the castle. Yamato successfully managed to prevent the Kazenbo from entering the armory, which was pivotal to saving the entire island from being blown up.

Yamato has stated numerous times that he yearns to explore the rest of the world like his idol, Oden. When Yamato met Ace years ago, they had an earnest conversation where Yamato revealed his desire to roam the seas.
Unfortunately, Yamato could not leave the island, so he waited for Luffy’s arrival. When Yamato was sure of Luffy’s presence, the former wasted absolutely no time in getting to Luffy’s location. As the pair continued to talk, Yamato became even more impressed with Luffy, and it is fair to say at that point Yamato was certain that he absolutely had to join Luffy’s crew and sail the world.
Carrot Was Sidelined
It is easy to see the difference between Carrot’s roles. Before arriving in Wano, Carrot was heavily involved in all the action. She helped the Straw Hats to successfully leave Totto Land. With the help of her Sulong form, Carrot was able to destroy the ships led by Charlotte Daifuku.

Carrot’s contribution in the Whole Cake Island arc was incredible, and it was looking extremely likely that Carrot would become the next crewmate, but as the crew began their raid on Onigashima, Carrot was barely involved in any of the fights. She was more of a spectator in the Wano Country arc. Carrot tried to avenge Pedro by fighting Perospero, and even though she was helped by Wanda, they could notbring down Big Mom’seldest son. The two Minks did find some joy when they used their Sulong forms, but as soon as the moon was covered, Perospero was able to defeat them easily. Luckily for them, Nekomamushi arrived to fight Perospero and defeated him quite effortlessly.
The biggest difference between Carrot and Yamato is their strength. If Yamato joins the crew, he will be the second-strongest Straw Hat after Luffy.Yamato also possesses one of the strongest devil fruitsin the series.
The Straw Hats will be able to take on other pirate crews with more confidence, and they will have a better chance of defeating them. Also, Yamato has been waiting to sail the world for many years now, and he shares Oden’s will to explore, so it wouldn’t make sense to leave him behind once again. Carrot is not a bad fighter, but she has her limits.
Even though she teamed up with Wanda to fight Perospero, the two of them struggled to beat him. Entering the Sulong requires a specific condition and if that is not met, the Minks cannot transform. Carrot in her base form is not anything special, and since the enemies are only going to be tougher from here on out, Carrot might be left behind. Furthermore, there is a possibility that Carrot might decide to go back on her own accord because the Minks did manage to avenge Pedro.
One thing to keep in mind is that Carrot is a skilled lookout, and it is a position that is still vacant. So, there is a possibility that she might continue to sail with the crew and her addition to the crew will make it more diverse as the Straw Hats do not have a member of the Mink tribe. The chances may be slim, but Carrot fans will be hoping that their favorite joins the crew at all costs.
