From its beginnings on the Wii to the Definitive Edition on the Switch, one elderly gamer has been with theXenoblade Chroniclesfranchise for the past ten years. In an unboxing video, she expertly recounts the series' history and what it’s meant to her.
There are more elderly gamers out there other thanSkyrimGrandma. While gaming is normally known for attracting the younger generations, some older folks out there love to spend their free time exploring fantastical worlds and fighting monsters. Though they are sometimes few and far between, some of these gamers take to YouTube to document their love for gaming. One of them is content creator Food4Dogs who shares an obvious obsession with JRPGs, particularlytheXenoblade Chroniclesseries.

Known only as her online username, Food4Dogs is retired in New Zealand and spends her free time playing both popular and indie JRPGs, as well as watching anime. She regularly uploads videos outlining her love for gaming through YouTube and typically highlights some more obscure series. In one of her most recent videos, she excitedly unboxes theDefinitive Edition ofXenoblade Chroniclesand gives close-up looks at some of the collector’s items as she narrates the franchise’s history and what it means to her.
Food4Dogs has been playing theXenobladegames since the first released on the Wii ten years ago, though she mentions that she originally had a lot of trouble using the Wiimotes because of her trembling hands, and was ultimately unable to finish it despite loving the game. But after the game was ported to the Nintendo 3DS, she bought a new one just to play the game and finish it. She’s still very surprised that the developers were able to fit such a massive game on a 3DS cartridge, but unfortunately, the graphics were a huge downgrade because of this. But she believes that this port kept the franchise alive.
Her knowledge of the series is impeccable. Food4Dogs owns the Nintendo amiibo collectible figure of Shulk and describes an interview about the success Shulk saw afterbeing added toSuper Smash Bros. 4.She knows of the lack of successXenoblade Chronicles Xsaw in comparison to its predecessor due to being released on the Wii U, and speaks on how she feltXenoblade Chronicles 2served as an excellent revival to the series. But ultimately, she’s very excited to jump back into the universe and she’s loved spending the last ten years exploring it.
In addition to her love forXenoblade, Food4Dogs also has a large collection of niche JRPGs includingDragon Star VarnirandMugen Souls. She’s an inspiration for gamers everywhere to be as knowledgable and active in the community at her age.
