Summary
Japan may have plenty ofPokemon-themed foods and restaurantsall the time, but that does not make news about new ones any less sweet - especially when they have great theming. This latest reveal from Universal Studios Japan is exactly that! For the first time ever, the popular theme park will havePokemon-themed foods available in the park to eat, and they have made dishes that will make anyPokémonfan fall in love.
Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is already a mecca for pop culture nerds and otaku alike, with sections dedicated toHarry Potter,Jurassic Park,Spider-Man,Jaws, and most recently,Super Mario Bros.It also has had a number of limited-time anime and video game rides, menu items, and goods in the past, namelyAttack on Titan,Demon Slayer, and evenFinal Fantasy. What it has been missing, despite being one of the biggest names in Japan, wasPokemon.

But this Halloween, Pikachu and his friends will finally be making their debut at USJ with a spread of special menu items! In addition to these food items, the park will also be posting its first-everPokemonDJ Party event, and a kid-friendly daytime event called “Hahaha! Halloween Party!” that is hinted at having characters joining.
Considering the huge number ofPokemonmascot characters that were in aparade in Yokohamajust last month, it is not a stretch of the imagination to imagine something similar happening at USJ this fall.
So far, five food items and one drinkhave been revealed by USJ. They are DJ Pikachu’s Halloween Party Plate (beef stew), DJ Gengar’s Halloween Party Plate (three types of curry), Imitation! Mimikyu’s Milk Mousse and Crêpe, DJ Pikachu and DJ Gengar’s Jumpin' Halloween Party Kids' Plate (hamburger and a donut), Banette’s Jumpin' Chocolate Cake, and finally Misdreavus' Prank?! Grape Jelly and Soda.
Each menu item is exquisitely themed, featuring motifs of the characters either on the food or the packaging, and a spooky Halloween color scheme of black, gray, purple, and orange.
The Pokemon that were chosen for the Halloween Party menu were all great choices, too. Of course, Pikachu will always be included regardless of the theme. But the other four, Mimikyu, Gengar, Misdreavus, and Banette, are all popularghost-type Pokemon. It makes perfect sense to see them as the mascots for a Halloween party! Hopefully, some great goods featuring these Pokemon will release soon, especially Misdreavus and Banette, who rarely appear on merchandise.
In addition to the newPokemonitems coming to USJ this fall, there will also be a few new goods and foods featuring Sanrio’s My Melody and Kuromi, as well as a newResident Evilchurro. Every year for Halloween, USJ has a huge zombie outbreak in the park after dark to celebrate the season withResident Evil, and this year they are promising to have the largest number of zombies yet! The usual USJ characters like Snoopy and the Minions will also join the Halloween party in special costumes.
Universal Studios Japan is definitely going to be a top destination for nerds and otaku alike this fall, with all new things to eat, see, and buy - withPokemontaking the center stage! The new goods have already gone on sale from this week, and the food and drink items will release in the park on September 4th. The Halloween parties and events will run from September 8th to November 5th, so that’s two months' time to celebrate!
