The Last of Usis certainly a cinematic experience, and the same can be said for theUnchartedgames. Though both series were introduced to fans years ago, their screen adaptions still have yet to see release.
Currently little is known about these adaptions. HBO is leading theThe Last of Usadaption, whilst several studios are collaborating with PlayStation Productions on the creation of theUnchartedmovie. RegardingUncharted, it is known that Tom Holland, Marvel’sSpider-Man, will be playing the main character, Nathan Drake. Tom will be staring alongside The Departed’s Mark Wahlberg and the film is currently in post-production. Less is known about HBO’sThe Last of Us, but Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are the two lead actors on the project.

Though fans may be worried that both projects may not be going forward as scheduled, a recent interview with PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan reveals that is not the case. TheCOVID-19 pandemic has affected the productionof numerous films and television shows. This includes season 2 of the popular Netflix adaption ofThe Witcher. However, Ryan has reportedly promised that neitherThe Last of UsnorUnchartedwill be delayed. The 2022 release date for theUnchartedmovie still applies andThe Last of Ustv series release date is still unknown.
While the pandemic did not affect production in this case, it is unknown what other projects could have been delayed by COVID-19. After all, the PlayStation Productions CEO, Tony Vinciquerra, recently stated that the company had10 screen adaptions in the works. The IP’s Vinciquerra was referring to are currently a matter of speculation, with only 3 of the projects having been officially announced.
The Last of UsandUnchartedfans, who have likely been awaiting production eagerly, are sure to be delighted by this news. Video game screen adaptions were frowned upon for some time due to Nintendo’s disastrous experiences. However, the recent tv series based onThe Witcher, headed bysuper fan and gamer Henry Cavill, has restored the reputation of video game adaptions. This makes it a perfect time for Sony to delight fans with their own IP’s on the big and small screen.
There are fans who are skeptical though. Frustrations have already built as the release of theUnchartedmovie has beenpushed back multiple times. The movie has reportedly been in production since 2008, over ten years.
TheUnchartedmovie is expected to be released July 11, 2025.The Last of UsTV series release date is still unknown.
