Seven years after replacing Jon Stewart with Trevor Noah,The Daily Showwill be going through another shakeup. After Noah replaced Stewart on the show back in 2015, the show will be looking for a new host, as Noah is planning to depart the show, though it is not known when that will be.
Noah announced via theComedy Centralshow itself on September 29 that he is planning to leave for new ventures. Noah voiced his gratitude to those running the show andthe audience for their supportover the years, but he feels that it’s time for a change.

After bringing up how long it’s been since he took over the show and what’s gone on during his time as host -the Donald Trump presidencyand the COVID-19 pandemic - he got right to the point. “After the seven years, my time is up,” Noah said. “In the most beautiful way. Honestly, I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys." Noah later explained why he’s making this choice following the success he’s had since hostingThe Daily Show. “I realize there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss being everywhere doing everything.”
Noah was a recurring contributor forThe Daily Showin 2014 before being named Stewart’s successor as host in 2015. Before that, he made a name for himself in South Africa as a comedian, entertainer, and actor. Since getting his big break onThe Daily Show, Noah has written a book, made various TV appearances, and even gone on tours again as a comedian. Evidently, he wants to go back to what he was doing before being the host ofThe Daily Showbecause he misses his old life.
Regardless of what fans thought of Noah compared to his predecessor, it is impressive thatThe Daily Show’s relevance remained steady after replacing someone who played a strong hand in building the show’s popularity like Stewart with someone who was not a well-known commodity at the time. Whether Noah was as good of a host as Stewart is debatable among fans, but at the same time, he didn’t have to be. His task wasn’t so muchliving up to Stewart’s reputationbut doing what he had to so thatThe Daily Showcould keep going.
So now, Comedy Centralhas the task of coming up with Noah’s replacement. Keep in mind that Noah was very much an unknown name when he took the reins from Stewart. Do they go with someone who has previously established talk show experience, or do they take the same risk by hiring someone who audiences aren’t familiar with? Some talk shows have gone with previously established names, while others have brought up someone not previously known.Both have pros and cons. When networks have gone with either option, sometimes they worked, and sometimes they didn’t, without naming names for either side. Some people are naturally good at being talk show hosts, and others are completely out of their element.
