Ever since coming out back in 2017 as a Nintendo Switch launch title,The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildplayers continue to find secrets and cool techniques that only die-hard fans can discover. Even thespeedrunning communityhas been having loads of fun with the game post-launch, creating new categories to spice things up from time to time. There have been speedruns to see who can feed all of the dogs in the game the fastest and there’s even a speedrun to fall off a cliff.
The latest speedrunning craze forZelda: Breath of the Wildis upon us and the current record holder –at the time of writing– is Xeryph. They uploaded a video of them completing the speedrun in 19 minutes and 44 seconds, which is mostly comprised of cutscenes that are unskippable. The goal for this speedrun is sure to turn eyes, as it’s very off the wall and unexpected.

The category goes by bread% and tasks speedrunners with gathering the materials to make bread and then cook it. The speedrun, as players can see below for themselves, involves a lot of the typical action that people will seeduring speedruns forZelda: Breath of the Wild, or any game for that matter. Xeryph begins the speedrun by immediately clipping through walls and using a whistling trick to maintain running speed without losing stamina.
Before players can access the areas where the bread ingredients are found, all of the beginning shrines have to be completed so thatLink has access to his Stasis powersand then eventually the paraglider to get off the Great Plateau. Of course, completing these would typically take players a few hours, but Xeryph gets through these very quickly by using lots of exploits, glitches, and impressive hard-to-pull-off techniques, essentially breaking the game’s physics engine.
One of the trickiest parts of this speedrun requires some good RNG, as players need to find wheat in Tabantha Frontier bycutting grass with a weapon, which can take quite some time if luck isn’t on the player’s side, as Xeryph demonstrates in their video.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis available on the Switch and Wii U.Breath of the Wild 2is currently in development for the Switch. Nintendo has not announced a release date just yet, but it seems thatGanon will be making a return as the main antagonist, and will most likely face off against Link and Zelda once again.
