The Last of Us Part 1features many difficult encounters with a wide variety of infected and human enemies in tight and claustrophobic spaces where players are forced to engage in close-range, hard-fought battles for survival.

When Ellie and Joel arrive in Pittsburgh inThe Last of Us Part 1, they are forced to cut through a Hunter-filled hotel to avoid the streets. When the two are separated by a collapsed elevator, Joel must descend into the bowels of the building on his way to reunite with Ellie. It’s here that one of the game’s toughest encounters will play out.
How To Escape The Hotel Basement
Joel will first encounter Stalkers in thespore-filled basement in Pittsburgh, where they will only spawn once players have either interacted with the door to get out, picked up the key card, or attempted to start the generator. Starting the generator first will cause the player to get jumped by a Stalker and lose some health, as such, it’srecommended that players interact with the exit door firstin order to save time for what comes next.
After dealing with thefirst wave of Stalkers, Joel will have to either pick up the key card and/or start the generator to power the exit door. Upon doing one or both of these things,a second wave of Stalkers will appear alongside a Bloater.
The key to surviving this encounter, without losing too much health or ammo, is timing. As soon as the door is powered and the enemies spawn,make a run for the exit doorto use the key card to escape – here is where interacting with the door first will pay off, asJoel won’t waste time trying to pry the door openand will instead go straight to using the key card.
On the mad rush to the door, the player will likely be jumped by Stalkers; keep running past them to the door anddeal with them upon reaching it. By this time, the Bloater may be close by, charging for a rush down the corridor. If so, turn from the door and take adrop-down to the flooded area. Here, wait forthe Bloater to follow Joeldown andrun quickly back up the stairs to the doorwhere Joel should be able to escape without having to deal with the Bloater.
