A fan has taken it upon themselves to try and find as many similarities between the trailer for HBO’sThe Last of Usseries and what is currently in the PS5 remake. Thanks toThe Last of Us Part 1’s photo mode and updated graphics, they’ve managed to find a surprising amount of side-by-side comparison shots and have shared their findings on Twitter.
Fans ofThe Last of Ushave been praising the first trailer for the HBO series for using many of the same elements of its source material. From bringing back the song used in the original game’s first trailer in 2012 to the atmosphere of the live-action scenes and other elements, the nostalgia thatThe Last of Usfans felt during this trailermade some feel hopeful for the TV series. As some fans just let their nostalgia make the comparisons, one fan used the recently releasedThe Last of Us: Part 1’s photo mode to go the extra mile in order to see how many scenes from the game they could match with the trailer.

Twitter user NoblePhoenixVP shared some screenshots of how many ofThe Last of Us: Part 1’s game scenesthey could match up with the HBO Max trailer. The results are not only remarkably similar but plentiful. There are 9 tweets with comparisons between the game and the TV show trailer. The trailer is not a 1-for-1 remake of the game, nor should it be expected to be, but the shots that NoblePhoenix VP found show the dedication to recreating some iconic scenes and moments from the source material.
The comparisonshot of Joel Miller’s broken watch faceis remarkably well done. As too are Joel’s University shots, Ellie’s merry-go-round ride, and the Clicker. The makeup on the show’s version of the clicker does not cut corners as it recreates the horrific mutation the fungus does to humans in this world. Not everything is perfect, as NoblePhoenixVP says later in the thread. They couldn’t get the perfect angle for some scenes and some were changed for the HBO series, so they found the next best alternative. For example, a different angle of Joel, Tess, and Ellie hiding from the military had to be used for that comparison shot.
At the end of the thread, they creditThe Last of Us: Part 1’s lighting tool to make the shot seem perfect and as close to the TV show trailer as possible. Overall, the photo mode recreations are very well done and NoblePhoenixVP should be praised for their work in painstakingly finding the right shots and sharing them with the community.
