While Warner Bros. has high hopes for the upcomingFlashfilm, it has been revealed that it would be nearly impossible to replace actor Ezra Miller.
Miller, who has portrayed the film adaptation ofThe FlashsinceBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice(2016), has been caught in many recent controversies that have led some DC fans to question whether Warner Bros. should recast the film. “That’s it, I’m calling it. Warner Bros. needs to ditch Ezra Miller,” one fan tweeted, while others specifically wantThe Flashseries' Grant Gustin to replace Miller.

However, insiders have revealed that at this stage, it is not possible to recast the actor. “They are in just about every scene, and there is not enough digital technology in existence to configure that magic without going back to square one,” Variety reported. “And redoing the entire film is not a realistic proposition for any movie — much less one that wrapped production months ago and already cost hundreds of millions.” Adding to the challenges is the appointment ofWarner Bros. DiscoveryCEO David Zaslov, as leadership shakeups could potentially alter the current plans for the studios' slate. “There are a myriad of directions that Warner Bros. could go,” Jeff Bock, a box office analyst with Exhibitor Relations said. “Choosing the right one is paramount for the future of DC.”
The outcry for a recasting comes from the multiple incidents that Miller has gotten themselves into over the past few months. On March 28,The Flashstar was arrestedin Hawaii for disorderly conduct following several minor offenses throughout the month. On March 29, Miller received a restraining order from two Hawaii residents after they allegedly broke into the couple’s bedroom and threatened them. However, the order was later dropped. Most recently, on April 19, Miller was arrested for second-degree assault after reportedly throwing a chair at a 26-year-old woman. The build-up of these controversies have caused fans to call for their recasting and firing from Warner Bros.
Not only is Miller the face ofThe Flashfilm, but they also one of the main characters of Warner Bros.Fantastic Beastsseries. TheseHarry Potterprequels have starred the actor since the beginning, and the studio has not released many details about Miller’s future with the franchise following therelease ofFantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
With an already rocky history behind them, it is unclear how Warner Bros. will respond to the requests for recasts. While the DC movie lineup has already been released, fans are still waiting for more information about how Warner Bros. will react going forward.
The Flashis scheduled to release in theaters on June 05, 2025.
