There’s a new expansion coming toWorld of Warcraft, and what’s different about this one is that it’s actually an old expansion. The originalBurning Crusadewas released in 2007 to a hungry fanbase, and although novelty has been replaced with nostalgia, those same loyal denizens of Azeroth are no less rabid. The game sold more than 2.4 million copies on its release date, making it the fastest-selling game of all time up until that point, and the download rate for this time around will likely be the same.

Through The Dark Portal World of Warcraft Burning Crusade Classic

Word on the Discord servers is thatTBCwas the only true expansion toClassic WoW, improving the game and fixing the bugs while staying true to the community spirit and lengthy grind that madeWoWso great in the beginning. The attunement process for the dungeons and raids inTBCare notorious for their long and complex quests, and a few of these scratch that surface. These are just a few memorablequestlines that accompany the new expansion, and they’re actually fun and rewarding to complete while they take the player through some lore and exposition.

Updated by Kristy Ambrose on June 18th, 2021:There are a few things for new players and alts to do in TBC, but World of Warcraft’s The Burning Crusade expansion is mostly for players from level 60 and up. As players went through the ten-level grind to 70, we decided to add a few more of the new TBC quests to our list. A few of these questlines are connected to endgame raids and others offer valuable or Best-in-Slot (BiS) items. Some parts of these Burning Crusade questlines differ between Horde and Alliance but everything list here is available to each faction.

Isle of Quel’Danas, Blood Elves, World f Warcraft The Burning Crusade

13Burning Crusade: Through the Dark Portal (Level 58)

This is the first and most obvious quest chain for the new expansion, as it actually guides you to the Dark Portal while telling you why it’s there and what you have to do on the other side of it. For Horde players, the quest starts at a notice posted in Orgrimmar, “Warchief’s Command: Outland!” and Alliance players can find a similar poster on the Stormwind bulletin board entitled, “Hero’s Call: Outland.”

Players don’t have to visit their faction’s capital city to start this quest chain. If you happen to bewandering through the Badlandsyou can visit the Dark Portal and get the quest from your faction’s rep at the battlefront near the portal, essentially skipping the bulletin board part. Be prepared to travel across most of Hellfire Peninsula for the ten quests that make up this lengthy chain.

12Duty Calls (Level 70)

This quest chain is slightlydifferent depending on what faction you’re playing, Aldor or Scryer, and starts in Shattrath City. The first quest in the chain is available at level 70, so it’s intended for players after they’ve experienced the basic storyline in Outland and are ready for some rep grinds and raids. There are four quests in this chain, which doesn’t seem like a lot, but some of them involve traveling to Magister’s Terrace and successfully killing none other than Kael’thas Sunstrider. The final reward is a useful gem that gives you an Intellect or Agility buff, because we have Jewelcrafting now.

11The Sanctum of the Sun (Horde, Level 17)

Unlike most of the quest lines that get the most attention inTBC, this is for new characters and players who might not be familiar with the history of the Sin’dorei. There’s a quest chain before this one that leads from the town of Tranquillien but it’s not a requirement.

This extensive questline has eleven steps, and it involves killing the traitor Dar’Khan and delivering his head to a prominent Blood Elf leader. The quest doesn’t end there, moving on to Undercity and finally Orgrimmar. The journey introduces the player to some new transportation options and the politics behind the close relationship the Forsaken have with the Blood Elves.

10Ring of Blood (Level 65)

Find Gorgthuck in northern Nagrand by the Laughing Skull ruins to start thisTBCquest chain. A full party of five is needed to finish the fights against these fearsome elites. Each step consists of defeating yet another fearsome opponent in the Ring of Blood.

Finish the whole chain and choose from a selection of nice blue items to sell, disenchant, or use until the BiS items start to drop.

Exodar

9Apprentice Tasserel (Level 68)

Before you breach the dusty halls of Med’ivh’s former home, visit Shattrath City and talk to Apprentice Tasserel, who asks you to find a solitary mage called Alturus moping about in Deadwind Pass. This starts a 13-step quest chain that leads into the depths of the cavers under Deadwind Pass for a few steps until tasking the player with making their way into Karazhan itself.

That quest, entitled “Entry Into Karazhan” is often cited as the chain’s official starting point. The player then has to move through Karazhan in both dungeon and raid form before being rewarded with the Master’s Key, which allows you to access Medivh’s Tower. The long attunement process forTBCraids actually begins at this point.

Old Hillbard Foothills, Durnholde Keep

8Intercepting the Message (Alliance, Level 17)

This is the Alliance equivalent of “The Sanctum of the Sun” but instead, it’s for players of the other faction to get to know the Draenei, the other new race that was introduced inTBC. The player intercepts a message in Thallasian, the blood Elf tongue, and in the process of having it translated they travel to the Exodar and speak to Velen, the Draenei leader.

After some more exposition, the player gets to throw the Blood Elves' nefarious plans into disarray and is rewarded with a really nice pair of green shoes. As interesting as it is, it’s still a low-level quest.

7To The Master’s Lair (Level 66)

Welcome to what could be the best addition to old Azeroth inTBC, the Caverns of Time. This addition not only allowsplayers to experience some notable historical eventsbut also to see some familiar old zones and how they looked in before times. This quest chain includes two of those vintage locations.

After relaying a few messages back and forth, the player has to visit both Old Hillsbrad Foothills and Black Morass, two of the most significant locations in recent Azerothian history. Throughout the journey, you’ll get to know the Keepers of Time and learn how theWorld of Warcraftyou know came to be.

6The Secret Compromised (Level 70)

The secret is the incredible award that awaits the player at the end of this quest chain, which in turn isthe continuation of yet another lengthy chainthat starts with “Tablets of Baa’ri” and ends with “Akama’s Promise.” Only after the player completes the first quest chain will they be sent to the Warden’s Cage and obtain “The Secret Compromised.”

There are no less than ten quests lead from Serpentshrine Cavern to Mount Hyjal in the Caverns of Time and finally the Black Temple. The final step in the chain is to fight and defeat the icon of the expansion himself, the Demon Hunter Illidan Stormrage. The necklace that is your reward grants a generous +49 to your Stamina and +40 to your Shadow Resistance.

Gates of the Black Temple, Shadowemoon Valley

5A Haunted History (Level 67)

This is a quest chain that ends with “Teron Gorefiend, I Am” which goes over some interesting lore, as the name suggests. The reward for completing the chain is the player’s choice of Second Sight Helm, some of which are BiS for certain classes.

4Oooh, Shinies! (Level 70)

You met this shady NPC named Griftah in Shattrath, and you don’t think much of him at first, but pay closer attention when he tells you about a horde of “shinies” in Zul’Aman. Reduced to a heroic dungeon for five players in the present retail version, inTBCthis was the first 10-player raid, and this quest chain will lead you there.

The following four quests take you into Zul’Aman to obtain some unique items before facing the final boss, Hex Lord Malacrass.

Zul’Aman, Ghostlands

Apparently, the NPC Budd, who is your contact in the Ghostlands for these quests, still exists in the retail version and getsweirder and more unhinged with every expansion.
