Summary
In the year sinceOverwatch 2was released, it has considerably expanded the stylings of the first game. Several new characters have been added to the roster, with the likes of Lifeweaver andthe recently added Maugainjecting their own visual flair into each match. New maps have also kept things fresh, as developer Blizzard has consistently found new ways to create exciting arenas. WhileOverwatch 2’s gameplay has always been at the forefront of the experience, the game simply wouldn’t be the same without its striking visual style.
An essential part ofOverwatch 2’s style is the game’s extensive list of skins. Dozens upon dozens of skins have been released since launch, with some highlighting the unique style of a particular hero, and others taking on the theme of anOverwatch 2event. ThroughoutOverwatchandOverwatch 2’s extensive history, Blizzard has provided new twists on classic skins in the form of recolors, which has given players a chance to rediscover some of their favorites. Many recolors have been added toOverwatch 2over the years, but a few stand out as some of the game’s best.
Genji: Demon Legendary Skin
One ofOverwatch’s original heroes, Genjihas been fortunate enough to receive some of the game’s most visually striking skins. For the longest time, one of his best was the Oni skin, which gave Genji a distinct white mask with bold red accents. Long after that skin was introduced, Blizzard added the Demon skin, which made the mask red, Genji’s robes white, and solidified the ninja as one ofOverwatch 2’s most stylish heroes.
Hanzo: Dark Wolf Legendary Skin
Though Genji may get a lot of love fromOverwatch 2’s artists, his brother Hanzo has received his fair share of skins as well. In fact, one ofOverwatch 2’s best skin recolors belongs to the archer, in the form of the Dark Wolf skin. This design is a darker take on Hanzo’s Okami and Lone Wolf skins, giving the archer an almost undead look that is both bold and chilling.
Lucio: Poison Dart Legendary Skin
AsOverwatch 2’s resident DJ, Lucio has almost always had a knack for stylish skins. His Poison Dart skin is a strong example of this, as it takes the frog-themed HippityHop and Ribbit design and turns everything black and blue. Part of its strength is its simplicity, astheOverwatch 2support herotruly resembles a poisonous frog that might be found in a dense jungle.
Mercy: Mage Legendary Skin
There are few skins that sit in the upper echelon of thoseOverwatch 2has to offer, and Mercy has been fortunate enough to receive a handful of them. Ever since the early days ofOverwatch, Mercy’s Witch skin from the Halloween Terror event has been a standout, and the Mage recolor provides a new version of that look with lighter tones. Even withMercy receiving a new holiday skin, the Mage recolor remains one of the game’s best.
Reaper: Evermore Legendary Skin
Reaper has been both a fan-favorite and a frequently derided DPS heroinOverwatch 2, with many skins to match his popularity. While the majority of his skins feature dark shades, the Evermore recolor puts Reaper in stark white attire that contrasts with his original Nevermore and Plague Doctor skins. It may be a brighter look than what Evermore is based on, but the skin’s design makes it nonetheless intimidating.
Though Blizzard doesn’t get into the habit of recoloringOverwatch 2skins too often, when it does, they can be some of the most captivating in the game. The developer is alwaysfinding new ways to improveOverwatch 2and expand the experience, so time will tell if more recolors will come in the future.
