So far, while it managed to both ask and answer many, there are still quite a few that audiences are hoping to see resolved inthe final two mega episodesyet to be released at the beginning of July. Whether the answers will actually be given or left for the mysterious fifth and final season waits to be seen.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

6What Is In Will’s Painting?

Will has always been an important character in the show, but in the more recent seasons, the writers seem to havestruggled at giving him anything to do. His arc this season has mostly been to hang around Mike looking forlorn, leading fans to ask if he might be coming out sometime soon like Robin did in the third season.

Whether this occurs, there is most assuredly a firm question left to be answered with Will. There was a painting he wanted to show Mike early in the fourth season, and he brought it along for the ride when they went off to try and find El. How a painting can be a significant enough development to wait this long before revealing it is mysterious, but clearly it matters to Will and may provide some reason for him acting so strangely.

5What Will Happen Between Nancy And Steve?

Nancy Wheeler has a long history of her character development and arcs throughout each season being related to the man she’s with at the time. Between Steve and Jonathan, she has always been focused on men and relationships, even while trying to chase whatever story is going on.

Despite Nancy being freshly cursed at the end of Part 1, and having a blossoming friendship with Robinthat’s been a great source of quotesthis season so far, her romantic entanglements continue. Confusion about her relationship with Jonathan as she and Steve start to find some rekindled interest in each other is intriguing for viewers but could lead to a very difficult choice for Nancy soon.

4Why Is The Upside Down Frozen In Time?

When the four older kids entered the Upside Down late in Part 1, they discovered that the Upside Down is stuck in 1983. While this question may have been partially answered by the season’s final major twist, it doesn’t fully explain to fans what made this happen.

While Vecna was sent by Eleven into the Upside Down, consequentially turning him into what he is today, the time freeze doesn’t fully make sense. If the Upside Down froze in place at the exact moment that she sent him there, did that dimension ever even exist before that? Or did it take shape based on his memory of Hawkins after he arrived? There is still much unknown about the Upside Down so far. While this part of the season was great, the upside-down trip was confusing and needs to be addressed.

3Where Did The Russian Demogorgon Come From?

The Russians managed toget hold of a Demogorgonas a major part of season four’s journey for Hopper. However, we still don’t know how this occurred. It is possible that Hopper’s journey to Russia during the closing of the mall gate resulted in more inhabitants of the upside-down being brought through to the Soviet side.

As Hopper, Murray, and Joyce try to return to America, they will probably find out more about the origins of the Demogorgon. If not, then at least it may be better explained how Hopper ended up in Russia, as it could lead the trio to find a quicker way back to America by returning to the other dimension.

2Can Nancy And Max Be Saved?

Another big question surrounding Nancy in particular is will she even survive the rest of the fourth season? After all, Vecna’s curse has already taken several lives in Hawkins and will probably take more before his rampage is finished. Nancy and Max are still under his curse and could be taken from their friends before the credits roll at the end of Episode 9.

Whilethe brutal nature of Vecna’s murdersmakes it hard to imagine it happening to a character the audience has really gotten to know, the show has proven it isn’t above brutal endings for lovable characters and could take either one of these two, or another character, away in the final episodes. While the gang has figured out how to protect Max for now with the power of Kate Bush, it’s no guarantee that Nancy will be as easily protected.

1Can Hawkins Accept The Truth?

While Vecna is an incredibly difficult problem to solve, with the many portals he’s been opening around Hawkins, the jocks from school might be an even bigger issue. They’ve managed to rile up the town into a frenzied state over the “demonic cult” that is the Hellfire Club. It’ll be difficult for the gang, and particularly Eddie, to explain what’s been going on with the suspicion on him.

This sort of crowd mentality is difficult to diffuse, and it is hard to see the entire town calming down over this situation without the Feds doing some serious work on them or proof of the upside-down being shown to the whole of Hawkins at last. Either one of these endings to the fourth season would drastically shift the dynamic ofStranger Thingsforever, but the show probably isn’t above doing that at this late stage, with only one further season to be made before the show ends.
