Stranger Thingsseason 5 might not be on the horizon just yet, but the cast is starting to become aware of how the series will end. In fact, according to Noah Schnapp, Will Byers will have a big role to play in the endgame.

Stranger Thingsfollows the townspeople of Hawkins, Indiana, who begin to notice a strange phenomenon connected to a laboratory run by the Department of Energy. When Will Byers goes missing, several people band together to find out what happened to him. In the process, some of Will’s friends discover a mysterious young girl,Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, who may be the key to saving Hawkins.

While promoting his new vegan, low-sugar spread (known as TBH), Schnapp spoke briefly withForbesabout the final season ofStranger Things. “I can just tell you that I’m very very excited for what’s to come," Schnapp said. “I think they did a great job with Will’s character this season, and beautifully addressed everything they needed to. The way they closed the show is just perfect — the story started with Will, and it’ll end with Will.”

InStranger Thingsseason 4, Will had a diminished presence in the series. The character had spent the first two seasons being terrorized by the Upside Down, and in seasons 3 and 4, he got something of a break from the otherworldly happenings in Hawkins. In season 4,Will Byers came to terms with being gay and in love with Mike, though his feelings were left unresolved. Unfortunately, a small midwestern town in the ’80s was not the safest place to be openly gay.

However, several mysteries surrounding Will’s connection to the Upside Down remain. His ability of “true sight” (which allows him to glimpse the Upside Down and sense the presence of Vecna) has yet to be explained. Additionally, thoughJamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna confronted Elevenlast season, he has yet to share any screentime with Will.

Given that Will is one of the most traumatized teens onStranger Things, he’s a prime candidate for Vecna’s curse. He’s also quite similar to Vecna: in his youth, Vecna was known as Henry Creel (Raphael Luce). Henry was considered “different” and sensitive, just like Will. However, unlike Will, Henry was born with abilities that allowed him to wield tremendous power. As Vecna,he even went on to create the Mind Flayer, which has been psychically linked to Will in the past.Stranger Thingsseason 5 will likely show audiences how deep Will’s connection to Vecna goes.
