Starfieldcontains many secrets and surprises for space-faring players to uncover, and one unexpecting fan made a startling discovery on their 34th playthrough. Bethesda’s first new IP in over 25 years finally lifted off earlier this year, earning mostly positive reviews for its open-world sci-fi setting withcountless pre-generated planets to explore.
Warning: This article contains major story spoilers forStarfield.
Starfieldhas generated boundless discussion over its surprisingly in-depth spaceship and character customization options, but one of its most unique features lies in its approach to New Game Plus. While plenty of games give players the option to start a new story campaign with all their gear and stats from their previous playthrough,Starfieldprovides an in-universe explanationfor resetting its timeline. At the end of the game, the player can become a Starborn, a cosmic being with the ability to travel across space and time at will. As such, each playthrough takes place in a parallel timeline that the player can use to explore different worlds and narrative choices.
As Twitter user NikoMueller recently discovered, this also allows experiencedStarfieldplayers to meet the unlikeliest of characters during later playthroughs: themselves. NikoMueller was on their 34th playthrough when they encountered the version of their character from their very first run, who was handing over an artifact toStarfield’s space-faring Constellation faction. This shocking encounter contains new dialogue options for speaking to the player’s doppelganger, and NikoMueller was even able to recruit their past self to their crew.
OtherStarfieldplayers were taken aback by this, and have asked many questions about how this alternate version of the player character works in combat and dialogue. NikoMueller confirms that their variant has a voice (unlikeStarfield’s silent main avatar) and even gives opinions on their actions while playing through the game’s story and sidequests once again. They believe this chance encounter occurred at random, much to the amazement of other Twitter users who have complimented them for playing through the already massiveStarfieldso many times - even well after their character stats have been maxed out.
Starfieldis one of the biggest games of 2023, thanks in no small part to the vast replayability it provides in its spaceship-building suite and unique New Game Plus features. As it turns out, the latter can lead to players encountering themselves from a previous playthrough who can then become an ally during their latest trek through the stars. There seems to be no limit to the secrets players can uncover inStarfield, including the chance to team up with the one person a space explorer can always (hopefully) depend on in the dangerous final frontier of space.
