Summary
AStarfieldplayer used the game’s robust character creator to bring the belovedToy Storycharacter Buzz Lightyear into the game.Starfieldgives players the power to build and modify several aspects of the game world, including their character’s look, their ship, and mining and research outposts.
Starfield’s character creator has already been used to create severalpop culture icons like Ellen Ripley, the character played by Signory Weaver in theAlienseries, one of the most iconic figures in space-set science fiction.Starfield’s character creator does a good job of creating life-like versions of real people since the game’s overall aesthetic bends more toward stark realism rather than a stylized depiction of the mysteries of space. But that hasn’t stopped players from bringing beloved cartoon characters into the game, creating a surreal visual reminiscent of fan-created images wherein cartoon characters like Homer Simpson and Mario are given hyperrealistic makeovers.

Appropriately enough for a space-set sci-fi adventure, aStarfieldplayer who goes by the name of Xyzjin created Buzz Lightyear from theToy Storyfilm series. Images of their impressive created character were posted to theStarfieldsubreddit.Buzz Lightyear is a Space Rangerof Star Command, a militaristic hero dedicated to foiling the evil plans of Zurg, an alien who is the sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance. As far as player-created characters go, Buzz seems like a perfect fit for theStarfielduniverse.
The version of Buzz the player Xyzjin made more closely resembles the version of the character from the 2022 filmLightyear, a standalone film starring the belovedToy Storycharacter. When asked how they pulled off the cartoony look in a game with so much stark realism, Xyzjin said that they simply pushed everything to the max. The sliders for the nose, the mouth, the ears, the cheeks, and especially the chin and jaw sliders were all pushed to their most extreme to give the character that exaggerated Pixar look. This wouldn’t be the first time someone made a famous space explorer inStarfield, as one player created a startlingly accurate versionof real-life astronaut Chris Hadfield.
Starfield’s various customization options aren’t limited to turning the player character into beloved pop culture icons. It lets players turn their ships into iconic film and TV vehicles, too. The game’s ship building mechanics have been used to create iconic ships from different sci-fi universes, like theX-Wing from theStar Warsfranchiseand the Megazord fromPower Rangers.
Starfieldis available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
