The recent delay ofStarfieldupset many fans, as it has been billed as the big release of fall 2022 for quite some time. However, it wasn’t all bad news. Bethesda said, at the time, it would show some more of the game soon, which lined up perfectly with the general logo design of theXbox and Bethesda Games showcase.

Bethesda lived up to its word, debutingStarfieldgameplayfor the first time ever at the end of the Showcase. For the most part, it looks to be what many expected, but that’s by no means a bad thing. If anything, it seems the wait forStarfieldwill be even more agonizing.

This newStarfieldgameplay trailer shows off the player landing on the moon of Krete, in search of an abandoned research facility. The trailer does confirm first and third-person gameplay when it first gives look at some strange alien creatures. As seen below, the character eventually enters combat showing off a weapon wheel and a couple of guns, as well as the Crimson Fleet enemy faction.

The showcase then skipped over to New Atlantis and introduced thebeginning faction, Constellation. This showed off more of its city and characters, really giving fans an all-encompassing look at its style and approach, with character creation, spaceship combat and customization, and other features being shown off too. Specifically, the spaceship customization holds a ton of promise, but the space combat looks like it could be improved. Still, exploring thousands of planets is an interesting prospect.

Starfielddoes not have a new release date yet, but the Showcase was said to focus on games releasing in the next 12 months. This makes the rumor ofStarfield’s early 2023 windowseem all the more likely, but for now, fans will have to see.

Overall, the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase came to play, showing off tons of new games both expected and otherwise. Many hotly anticipated titles like Hollow Knight: Silksongwere there, Kojima confirmed his game being developed in cooperation with Xbox, and surprisingly enough,Overwatch 2andDiablo 4both got release windows. The latter even confirmed the very last class forDiablo 4as the Necromancer. While this showcase was indeed promising, fans do have more on the horizon, with the Capcom showcase taking place on June 13 and a Nintendo Direct rumored to take place later this month.
