Starfieldis set to release in just a few months, introducing the first new IP to developer Bethesda Studios catalog in over 25 years. The title promises an expansive RPG experience, asStarfieldallows fans to explore immense full-scale planetsas they work their way across the galaxy. Bethesda has a history of including recurring elements within its various properties, with bothElder ScrollsandFalloutsharing certain items and features. WhileStarfieldis no exception, fans have begun to question whether Bethesda’s classic Easter eggs will appear in the new property. Given what fans know so far,Starfieldappears to be missing one of Bethesda’s most popular items.
Starfieldis among 2023’s biggest releases, and Bethesda has shared extensive glimpses into its world and gameplay. The most significant of these was last month’sStarfieldDirect, which directly followed the Xbox Showcase at Summer Games Fest. The Direct showcased many of the game’s most important features, including combat, customization, and interstellar travel. Within these demonstrations, fans were quick to identify some returning elements from Bethesda’s other properties. However, the omittance of other major features has led some fans to become worried about the overall experience.

Starfield Carries On Various Bethesda Traditions
Bethesda has a long history of recurring features and easter eggsacross theirFalloutandElder Scrollsproperties, and Starfield offers a ton of potential for their return. Between its multiple showcases,Starfieldhas confirmed the return of some major gameplay elements already. The title will allow for robust character creation options as well as various factions with which a player can align. In addition, Starfield will allow for romantic options with close companions and assignable traits that expand a player-character’s backstory while offering various in-game effects.
One ofStarfield’s many character options,the Hero Worshipped trait, results in a hilariousOblivioneaster egg. When assigned to a player’s character, they will be worshiped by a character called the “Adoring Fan”, whose first appearance inThe Elder Scrolls: Oblivionwas popular for all the wrong reasons. InOblivion, the player is approached by an “Adoring Fan” after becoming Grand Champion of the Arena. He expresses his admiration for the player before asking if he can follow them around. While some players allowed him to do so out of pity, many despise the character. Why Bethesda would choose to directly feature this easter egg has led to some fan confusion, as the studio appears to have prioritized it over one of the studio’s most popular, and practical, recurring easter egg items.
Starfield Has Yet To Confirm the Return of Sweet Rolls
Earlier this month, Bethesda revealed key food items that will appear inStarfield. To the surprise of many fans,Starfield’s reveal did not include Sweet Rolls, a recurring item that shares a unique history between theFalloutandElder Scrollsseries. The confection was first featured inElder Scrolls: Arena, where it was used as part of a question that helped determine the player’s starting class. The same question appeared inDaggerfallandMorrowind, after which Sweet Rolls made the jump to theFalloutseries, where players receive one for their birthday in the opening sequence ofFallout 3. Sweet Rolls also appeared inSkyrim, where they functioned as a consumable item. Sweet Rolls later became the source of a popular internet meme, due to recurring NPC dialogue fromSkyrimin which a soldier says, “Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?”
It remains to be seen whetherStarfield’s missing features will be addressed prior to release. Bethesda continues to reveal minor details across its social media, but fans have larger concerns, as the studio has yet to address important features, like accessibility. With less than two months before the title’s release, it is unlikely that many more major updates will be provided by the team.Starfieldfans hope that the title’s missing elements will be featured at release, and while Sweet Rolls are certainly not the most critical item, their inclusion is important to a significant amount of Bethesda’s most loyal players.
