Reddit user Jd_Vas was just minding their own businessfishing inStardew Valleywhen a strange creature bobbed its head out of the water. It was only for a second, but Jd_Vas managed to take a picture and post it to Reddit. The creature is small, green, and has intense yellow eyes. After the picture was posted, theStardew Valleycommunity filled the original poster in on what exactly this creature is.
The creature that Jd_Vas saw was a merperson. Merpeople inStardew Valleylive in the ocean and are very different from the mermaids found at the Night Market or on Ginger Island. The merpeople are basically the game’s version of the loch ness monster and can only be found at the docks. The creature can only be seen for a few seconds at a time, but it also appears for a longer period during Krobus’ 14-heart event. The only resident who seems to know anything about these mysterious creatures inStardew Valleyis The Wizard.
The merperson only spawns 0.001% per game-time second near the docks, so spotting the creature is extremely rare. Despite how rare this sighting is, plenty of players in the comments for the Reddit post claim to have seen the creature multiple times. One commenter claimed to see it twice on mobile and one time while playing the game on PC, while another player claimed that they had put thousands of hours into the game and had never seen it once. If there’s one thing that seems to be clear, themystery of the merpeople inStardew Valleymay never truly be solved.
Stardew Valleyis available for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
