Marvel’s Spider-Man 2contains several great Easter eggs, but one fan recently pointed out a missed opportunity to include a real-life tribute to one of Marvel’s greatest heroes. While Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames are in a separate continuity from other recent Marvel titles likeMarvel’s AvengersandMarvel’s Midnight Suns, they still feature clever nods to other famous heroes like Black Panther and Doctor Strange. While exploring the open world of New York City,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2players can visit the Wakanda Embassy and Avengers Tower - and can even pay their respects to late MCU actor Chadwick Boseman at the former.
Some of these hidden details have leftMarvel’s Spider-Man 2fans guessing about Insomniac’s future plans, with a Nelsen and Murdock sign in Hell’s Kitchen drawing theories about Daredevil appearing to lend a hand in eitherSpider-Man 2’s rumored story DLCor the eventualSpider-Man 3. Eagle-eyed players have also spotted references to The Fantastic Four and X-Men scattered about inSpider-Man 2, the latter of which helps set the stage for the upcomingMarvel’s Wolverinegame that is set in Insomniac’s superhero universe.
However, there is one potentially cool Easter egg idea that Insomniac failed to capitalize on inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, as pointed out by Reddit user Kalb_157 on r/SpidermanPS4. They pointed out thatSpider-Man 2added Brooklynto its open-world game map, yet didn’t include the real-life Captain America statue that was made in honor of the legendary Super Solider’s 75th anniversary in 2016. The 13-ft bronze sculpture was originally placed at the entrance of a Bed, Bath and Beyond in Sunset Park before being moved to various locations. It currently resides in Liberty View Industrial Plaza at 850 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn.
Spider-Man 2 Could Have Included A Real-Life Captain America Statue
Having Brooklyn’s Captain America statue sitting somewhere inSpider-Man 2’s version of the borough could have been agreat nod to the larger Marvel gaming universe, especially since both Miles Morales and Steve Rogers hail from Brooklyn in the comics. One user in the comments section of Kalb_157’s post believes that it was left out to avoid Insomniac having to design a version of a character that might not legally be able to appear in one of its Marvel games, as well as any speculation that Captain America might eventually show up despite this.
This isn’t to say that Captain Steve Rogers isn’t out fighting the good fight inthe world ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, as it and its two predecessors have made several allusions to the Avengers in both its map and character description bios. In fact, Captain America was directly mentioned in Otto Octavius’s in-game bio as someone who is already highly admired in the originalMarvel’s Spider-Man. Sadly,Spider-Man 2players aren’t able to swing by his statue in Brooklyn, even if it would have been an incredible nod to Marvel’s greatest American hero.
