ASkyrimfan has released a funny video showcasing why players can’t use ten followers in the game at once. Thefollowers inSkyrimare some of the more interesting characters in the game, but unfortunately, it’s not always optimal to use them at the same time.
The followers in the game all have their own particular attributes that make them worthwhile companions. While some are strong melee fighters, others are just simply entertaining to have along for the ride. TakeSkyrim’s Cicerofor example - the jester may not be the most powerful follower to have, but he provides the laughs when compared to other stoic followers like Aela the Huntress. It’s all a matter of personal preference, and every player will look for something different from their companions. Luckily,Skyrimprovides several options.

Redditor Ebony_Phoenix showed the funnySkyrimclip, which highlighted some of the issues that can arise when using more followers than intended. The player is in an interior, and tries to go upstairs. However, it’s completely blocked by all of their followers, and they’re unable to do anything about it. It makes sense that something like this would arise. In the base game, players are only able to have one follower at any given time, and even they can get in the way at times. Gamers need to use aSkyrimmodin order to have multiple followers, but this clip shows why that might not be the best idea.
Some in the thread proposed a potential solution to this particularSkyrimproblem. There is a mod online that completely disables follower collision, and while this might be a slight immersion breaker, it would definitely solve the particular issue on display here. Others suggest simply Fus Ro Dah-ing their way out of the situation, but that seems like it has the potential to create far more problems than it solves.
It will be interesting to see what approachThe Elder Scrolls 6takes to its follower system.Skyrim’s followers were great, butFallout 4’s were arguably better, and it’s exciting to see Bethesda make great strides at improving such an essential system to the game. Of course, there are many who feel that Bethesda should look backward and believe that someSkyrimfollowers should return inThe Elder Scrolls 6, but a fresh slate would arguably be more exciting for the franchise. Hopefully the developer figures out a way to have multiple followers at once without it being a hindrance to the experience, as it opens up another level of interaction between the characters when done correctly.
