There are probably still a few people who have yet to experience the fantastical epic that isThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Releasing just over ten years ago, andSkyrimbeing one of the most immersive open world gamesaround, so many millions of players have spent countless hours within the world of Tamriel. Given its sheer popularity, it would be understandable to think of it as a near-perfect release. However, if Bethesda is known for one thing outside making huge games, it’s making buggy games. Oftentimes, these glitches can be frustrating and disruptive, but other times, they can be quite amusing or perplexing.
Take user MrPathetic69, for example. Recently, they uploaded a couple of screenshots to theSkyrimSubreddit, in which they show a weapon rack they have at their in-game home. Chief among the rack is the player’s Ebony Blade, which is seen sitting fairly high up. However, in subsequent images, the sword is seen higher and higher, until it’s literally floating in the air. The user says that the blade gets higher each time they come home.

It must be quite amusing to seeone ofSkyrim’s most powerful weaponsjust hovering gently, getting closer to the ceiling with each visit. Some in the comments have joked about how the Ebony Blade is hungry for blood, though the original poster did say that, as all the NPCs in Riverwood are dead, it’s unlikely that the sword is yearning for more. Jokes aside, there doesn’t appear to be any explanation for why the sword keeps moving higher up each time the player goes back home, but it’s another example of a seemingly endless string of in-game glitches.

Eventhe Anniversary Edition is not free from bugs, with Bethesda having to patch out some of the more serious issues that have been plaguing fans pretty much since day one. Fortunately, in this instance, this glitch errs on the somewhat funny side, more so than the game-breaking side, but it still raises the rather pressing question of just how many bugs are actually inSkyrim.
With fans now waiting for the next installment in the series, one thing that some may be pondering ishow the developer will iron out bugs inThe Elder Scrolls 6. In many respects, having such a glitchy, yet ultimately beloved, game has become something of a meme over the years. It doesn’t seem to have hurt the studio or the franchise’s reputation too much, but it seems as though the studio could stand to release a more polished title, even if some of the issues are amusing.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
