For many who have played game, the true beauty ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimlies in the extensive amount of detail applied to the open world. Given the expansive nature of the overworld, with unique NPCs populated in every major city and township inSkyrim, there’s bound to be several details players might overlook during their first several playthroughs. Although, some details are far more sinister than others.
In addition to having werewolves andvampires withinSkyrim, there are plenty of side quests and characters that possess rather foreboding and terrifying facets. Quests like The Taste of Death, With Friends Like These, and The House of Horrors all feature incredibly scary moments and disturbing characters. However, perhaps the most unsettling and despicable character inSkyrimwould be Grelod the Kind, headmistress of the Honorhall orphanage. Now, one player has discovered a disconcerting detail about Honorhall Orphanage that makes Grelod’s character even more heinous.

A Reddit user named ape_swole discovered that in the Honorhall Orphanage, located in the city ofRiften, there are shackles attached to one of the walls. This almost certainly implies that Grelod the Kind would bind children in shackles and either abuse them or leave them there for extended periods of time. It’s truly shocking just how much of a despicable character Grelod truly is in the grand scheme of things.
It makes sense for Grelod to be the first Dark Brotherhood contract the player carries out, given her violent and abusive behavior towards the orphans under her care. Considering that her death precedes the events of theWith Friends Like Thesemission and the way the children and Grelod’s assistant, Constance Michel, celebrate her death, it almost makes the Dark Brotherhood feel like a righteous cause, instead of being a ruthless group of assassins.
In any case, it’s amazing to see how much hidden detail is present withinSkyrimthat many players will likely inadvertently overlook the first time playing through the game. There are several otherhated enemies withinSkyrimoutside of Grelod the Kind and due to the extensive nature of the game’s overworld, the likelihood of encountering these enemies in-game can be quite slim at times.
