For how technically impressive the scope ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimcan often be, the game isn’t completely exempt from glitches or bugs. Ordinarily, glitches are looked down upon by players, but for some,Skyrimhas become a rare example of how glitches can add to the experience in a more charming way, as opposed to being intrusive. That being said, there are some bugs that truly breakSkyrimin a lot of ways.
DespiteSkyrimbeing populated with a number of technical hiccups, that doesn’t necessarily mean the glitches are a hindrance to the experience. In fact, there are actually a fair amount ofglitches inSkyrimthat are actually helpfulto player progression, such as free housing, Shout abilities with no cooldown timer, and many others. Though, this most recent glitch is much more humorous in terms of its application.

Over on Reddit, a user named Tap-Fair posted a brief gameplay clip of the large ship that players ride to get to Solstheim glitching out to the point where it can actually be controlled by the player. The user then proceeds to ride the ship over land and clips right through the ground into various different parts of Solstheim’s map that the ship was never meant to reach.
It turns out that, for whatever reason, this glitch only occurs whentheSkyrimplayer is over-encumberedwhile traveling on the boat. It’s likely that the developers did not account for players being over-encumbered while on the boat, and thus, it causes the player to gain complete control of the ship and move it to whichever part of the map they choose.
It’s amazing how many glitches there still are inSkyrim. Even after the release ofSkyrim: Anniversary Edition, the game still houses various bugs, which in a way, does make sense, considering how expansive and open-ended the world ofSkyrimis. In that situation, it’s easier for glitches to slip through the cracks, as opposed to some linear-based games.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds forThe Elder Scrollsseries going forward. It has now been over four years sinceThe Elder Scrolls 6was first announced during E3 2018, and there still hasn’t been any sort of update regarding the game’s development. However, onceStarfieldhas officially released, it’s likely that Bethesda will focus more attention on developingThe Elder Scrolls 6and will hopefully have more to share with players in the months to come.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
