A Reddit user has garnered over 270 upvotes on their post that focuses on a mod called Simple Tolls that adds entrance fees toevery majorSkyrimcity. There are nine major cities inSkyrim, each with its own shops, NPCs, and unique aesthetic that make them feel distinct from each other, with Whiterun being the first that players typically explore. While there are fees to manySkyrimtransactions like utilizing the wide network of carriages or giving gold in exchange for tips, most cities offer free admission unless players download the Simple Tolls mod.

Reddit user Dankjewel recently shared their Simple Tolls link for the legendary andspecial editions ofSkyrim, with the code varying slightly depending on which version of the game a player uses. Dankjewel stated that the mod ironically doesn’t have any polling, and it has been strictly created with “native structures” which suggests that the poll-related in-game interactions may feel natural to the setting. Going even further to help encapsulate the feeling ofSkyrim, Dankjewel also confirmed that a city Thane will get full-time free access, while the Windhelm fee-collector will be permanently “unsavory.”
The Simple Tolls mod can be downloaded on an existingSkyrimsave which may suggest that it won’t mess with anyone’s save files or cause any egregious crashes. According to Dankjewel, the uniqueSkyrimmod is event, quest, and triggerbox-based in order to splice and reuse dialogue from other areas of the successfulBethesda RPG. As Dankjewel noted ways that make the Simple Tolls mod particularly useful forSkyrim, another player suggested that others pair it with mods that offer alternate city entrances for even more immersion.
Though theSkyrimRiftenguards standing at the city entrance threaten to charge the player upon their first visit without any mods required, this mod is a way for fans to experience that across the board. While thisSkyrimmod impacts all major cities around the large world map, the smaller settlements and villages like Riverwood or Rorikstead will remain fee free, potentially making them more enticing to visit.
