Midori’s latest claim is regarding Sega’s flagship franchise, stating that there is aSonicspin-off in the works that could be coming out this year and is supposedly modeled afterFall Guys.
Posted on Midori’s Twitter account, she claims that this newSonicspin-off will be released for iOS and Android mobile devices, with it having gameplay elementssimilar toFall Guys. This spin-off will unlikely play exactly like Mediatonic’s title and instead will possibly feature elements of a battle royale game, requiring the player to be the last one remaining, as well as needing to stay on a stage or navigate an obstacle course, just like inFall Guys. This premise would fit the franchise’s speed-based platforming roots.
In a follow-up tweet from Andres Lopez from GoNintendo, who spoke directly with Midori, this will be a free-to-play game, with a summer release date allegedly set in place. The game’s developer is also confirmed to not be Sega Hardlight, who previously worked on mobile games for the franchise, likeSonic Dream Team,Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, andSonic Dash. With it pegged for a summer release, this likely means fans will hear about thisSonic the Hedgehogspin-off during an upcoming Sonic Central, as these events usually are broadcast in June.
