Xboxis set to launch a new Velocity Green controller soon, according to a Twitter leaker. The vibrant new color variant feels like a throwback to theXbox’s original color scheme, while perhaps borrowing some ideas from Xbox’s online controller customization tool, the Design Lab. The new controller is rumored to launch in the coming weeks.
Xbox releases new controllers periodically throughout the year. The most recent variant wasthe Stellar Shift controller. Like all new Xbox controllers, it is compatible with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Stellar Shift’s color scheme is predominantly purple with an iridescent sheen that changes the color to sky blue depending on where the light hits it. The handle, bumpers, and triggers have a textured rubberized grip with a smoky purple print that gives the handles the look of a nebula. Connecting the Stellar Shift controller to an Xbox console offers gave players a free dynamic background that matches the controller’s color scheme and space theme.

The new controller was leaked by billbil-kun on Twitter, a user known for tweeting gaming tech deals and occasionallydishing out early sneak peeksof upcoming gaming tech that manufacturers have not yet released or even officially announced, in some cases. Billbil-kun tweeted a partially blurred image of a new Xbox controller slated for a February 28th release. The “Velocity Green” color variant controller will retail for 59 euro, or around $63 or $64 US, putting it at around the average price point for a non-Elite Xbox controller.
The new controller is primarily a bright neon green that’s reminiscent of the classic green that Xbox has long been associated with since its inception. The panel on its underside, where the battery can be found, is pure white, and the shoulder buttons and triggers are black, as is the lining that bridges the shoulder buttons. The control sticks look to be the same bright green as the rest of the controller. The D-pad and face buttons appear to be the same shade of black as the triggers and shoulder buttons. While not astechnologically advanced as some controller conceptsMicrosoft has been working on in secret, the Velocity Green controller still looks like a nice upgrade.
The Velocity Green controller looks like it’s takensome inspiration from the Xbox Design Lab, the official Xbox controller customization tool that allows users to build their own controller from the ground up with whatever color scheme and accessories they want, albeit at a higher price point. Velocity Green appears to be offering players a controller in the style of a custom Design Lab creation without having to pay the slightly higher cost of a custom controller. Microsoft has yet to officially announce the new controller or even hint at its existence. But with its release date just around the corner, expect a formal announcement in the coming days.
