2K now intends to follow up on that move with aBorderlands 4reveal. That’s according to leaker Kurakasis, whoreportsthat the fourth installment in the long-running series of looter shooters will be unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2024, citing sources familiar with the matter. The claim dovetails with SGF’s May 16 teaser, which saw its organizers claim that 2K will be unveiling the next entry in one of its “biggest and most beloved franchises” at this year’s edition of the event.SGF 2024 kicks off on Friday, June 7, at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CET.
September 13 will mark the fifth anniversary ofBorderlands 3, which is still the latest numbered installment in the popular series. The gap between the second and third mainline entries in the franchise was seven years long. WhetherBorderlands 4is currently on course to hit the market before its own predecessor turns seven is unclear. Namely, although 2K has already confirmed that the project is in production, it did not clarify when exactly it entered active development. Modern AAA game dev cycles are at least five years long nowadays.
Borderlands 4 May Not Be 2K’s Only SGF 2024 Game
Whether 2K has anything more in store for the early June showcase remains to be seen. But assumingBorderlands 4is indeed 2K’s big SGF 2024 game, the publisher may refrain from sharing any additional blockbuster reveals at the event to avoid a scenario in which its own games are competing with one another for the spotlight.
