Rockstar announced its acquisition of Cfx.re in a Newswire post on the company’s website, with Cfx.re also issuing a separate statement. In Rockstar’s post, the studio describes how it has been excited by all the new ways fan communities have found to expandGrand Theft Auto 5andRed Dead Redemption 2. The company is especially interested in supporting the fan-run roleplay servers, prompting recent changes to Rockstar’s mod policy. The studio says that its acquisition of Cfx.re will help the team find new ways to improve its services and strengthen theRead Dead OnlineandGTA Onlineroleplay communities.

Meanwhile, Cfx.re clarified that its acquisition by Rockstar will not result in any significant changes in its day-to-day operations. However, the group says that Rockstar’s support will enable it to greatly improve FiveM and its community. The Cfx.re team says it is excited by the opportunity this partnership offers. However, the team also clarified that its focus would remain on improving FiveM and RedM. Cfx.re says that it will not have any involvement withthe upcomingGrand Theft Auto 6or any other aspect of Rockstar’s game development.

In the past, Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have had a complicated relationship with RP servers. Last year,Rockstar put restrictions on theGTA Onlineroleplay servers. However, those rules were mainly intended to prevent third parties from profiting fromGrand Theft AutoOnline. Even at the time, Rockstar was careful to clarify that it supported the RP community.

Now that Cfx.re is officially part of Rockstar Games, it seems clear that the RP servers will continue to play an essential role inGrand Theft AutoandRed Dead Redemption’s future.
