According to information shared on PlayStation Game Size’s Twitter account,Resident Evil Villagewill be smaller on PlayStation 5 than Xbox. The PlayStation version appears to be just over half the Xbox version’s size, which is a huge difference in size not often seen between similar versions of a game.
AfterResident Evil Village’s download sizewas revealed on the Microsoft Storeto be 50.02 GB, many assumed that it would be a similar size on PlayStation. However, as previously mentioned, this does not seem to be the case, and the difference between the two versions is sizeable, with the PlayStation 5 version being 27.325 GB.

WhenResident Evil 7was released in 2017, the difference between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 download size was almost identical, with both games being just over 20 GB. The previously revealed 50.02 GB download size forResident Evil Villageon the Microsoft Store may seem a huge leap in size fromResident Evil 7,but 50 GB is pretty small for current generation games.Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’swas staggeringly over 130GB file size on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
There are a few things to note about the difference in size betweenResident Evil Villageversions. Firstly, the difference in size does not mean a difference in content or performance, nor does it hint at exclusive content on Xbox. Secondly, the PlayStation Game Size report does not refer to the size of the PlayStation 4 version of the game, so that version’s file size may be similar to the Xbox version. Finally, the 27.325 GB figure does not include the Day One patch, which the Microsoft store could include.
The smaller size of the game could be related to the PlayStation 5 SSD, which Sony informed us would mean reduced loading times and smaller file sizes.PlayStation 5 players have witnessed massive improvementsin load times and faster downloads, so smaller file sizes are to be expected. If this trend were to continue and PlayStation 5 games are much smaller than the Xbox version, it could prove troublesome for the console’s player-base. As seen above withCall Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War,file sizes are getting bigger and bigger, and hard drive space is a concern for many gamers, and smaller file sizes mean more space, giving the PlayStation 5 an advantage against their rival.
That being said, it is too soon to tell whether games will take up less space onPlayStation 5, which is already having space issues, andResident Evil Villagemay just end up an outlier. Besides, smaller file sizes are nice, but gameplay and performance will always be most important to players, and we won’t know about that until the game is released.
