It’s no secret that Capcom likes to make remakes. In fact, the company has outright stated in the past that a big part of its strategy is to pad its releases with remakes and remasters. Considering this and the fact thatResident Evilis one of Capcom’s biggest franchises, it’s no surprise that there have been a number ofREremakes and remasters over the years. However, those hoping to see aCode: Veronicaremakeshould keep their expectations in check.

AestheticGamer, a credibleResident Evilfranchise leaker, has said that aCode: Veronicaremake is not in development in any capacity at Capcom. This is disappointing news for fans ofCode: Veronica, but on the bright side, the game is easily accessible on current-generation consoles.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, a slightly enhanced version of the original game, iscurrently available on PS4 as a digital PS2 title. On Xbox One, players can download the Xbox 360’sResident Evil Code: VeronicaHD remaster and play it thanks to the Xbox One backward compatibility program.

Even thoughResident Evil Code: Veronica Xis readily available on current-generation consoles, it’s not surprising that some fans want to see a remake. There are certain things aboutCode: Veronica Xthat haven’t exactly aged well, particularly the character Steve Burnside, and a remake would allow Capcom to trim the fat, so to speak. It would also allow Capcom to update the controls to modern standards, asCode: Veronica Xstill uses the old-school tank control scheme.

Those who aren’t super familiar with theResident Evilfranchise may not understand why fans want to see aCode: Veronicaremake. Even though it’s not a numberedResident Evilgame, it is most certainly a main series entry, and was originally supposed to be namedResident Evil 3. It was also the firstResident Evilgame on sixth generation consoles, launching on the Sega Dreamcast in February 2000 and having a number of major gameplay advancements as a result.

While aResident Evil Code: Veronicaremake is apparently not in development right now, that doesn’t mean that one won’t materialize somewhere down the road. Right nowCapcomhas its hands busy with theResident Evil 3remake as well as anotherResident Evilgame that’s rumored to be releasing within the next year.
