PC gamers who have the original version ofResident Evil 4in their Steam libraries have noticed that the game is now titledResident Evil 4 (2005).Resident Evil 4initially launched as a Nintendo GameCube exclusive, but Capcom has since ported it to nearly every other platform imaginable. This includes a PC version available through Steam that is the originalResident Evil 4experience with some added content to sweeten the pot.
The PC version ofResident Evil 4offers HD graphics, 60 frames per second, Steam achievements, mouse and keyboard support, and theSeparate Wayscontentthat was originally added with the PS2 port. While Capcom has not commented on the change, it most likely changedResident Evil 4toResident Evil 4 (2005)to avoid confusing players when theResident Evil 4remake launches next year. TheResident Evil 4remake release dateis set for March 24, and when it launches, it will be doing so with the plain title ofResident Evil 4, no “remake” moniker attached. Understandably, this could lead to some confusion when some customers go to purchase the new game.
TheResident Evil 4remake may have the same name as the original, but it’s going to be a very different kind of experience. The originalResident Evil 4is purposefully campy and corny, whereas theResident Evil 4remake appears to be embracing a much darker tone. TheResident Evil 4remake also appears to be cranking up the horror, which should address complaints from fans who felt the originalRE4wasn’t scary enough.
Changes are being made with theResident Evil 4remake, but it will still have the same story framework, setting, and locations from the original game.Resident Evil 4remake gameplay footage shown so far has focused on the village from the beginning of the game, showing protagonist Leon S. Kennedy fighting against the infected villagers and a dangerous chainsaw-wielding foe. While the new game certainly appears to be more horror-centric, it’s also giving Leon plenty of flashy moves to help fight back against his enemies, like giving him the ability to block a chainsaw with his knife.
