[UPDATE: Activision has released a statement claiming that reports of layoffs at Toys for Bob are incorrect. The original story continues below the statement.]

“Reports of layoffs at Toys For Bob are incorrect.  There has not been a reduction in personnel recently at the studio.  The development team is operating fully and has a number of full-time job openings at this time.  The studio is excited to continue supporting Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and more recently provide additional development support to Call of Duty: Warzone.”

Toys For Bobhas done great work with breathing new life into theSpyro the DragonandCrash Bandicootfranchises in recent years, but the studio is experiencing hard times due to a major development shift.

Layoffs have hit the California-based development studio Toys For Bob, but that’s just the beginning of its problems right now as many other developers are leaving the studio, and others still are being put to work onCall of Duty: Warzoneby parent company Activision.

While Toys For Bob is undergoing major restructuring right now due to the remaining developers being shifted to theCall of Duty: Warzoneteam, many of the developers are thankful that the studio isn’t being shut down completely. Even developers that were laid off or exited the team willingly remain thankful that Toys For Bob remains intact despite these big changes.

Activision recently confirmed thatCall of Duty: Warzonehas a whopping 100 million playersand the added development power may help the battle royale improve over time.Warzonerecently entered its third season ofBlack Ops Cold Warintegration and Activision’s Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, Raven, Beenox, and High Moon have already been working on the game.

With so many developers working onCall of Duty: Warzone, it looks like Toys For Bob is joining the project with tons of backup. While Vicarious Visions has recently taken the mantle of remastering classic Activision Blizzardproperties withDiablo 2: Resurrected, Toys For Bob may have been replaced as Activision’s remaster studio.

Despite the fact that Toys For Bob developers have been movedto working onCall of Duty: Warzone, recent rumors suggest that the team has been working on aCrash BandicootPvP multiplayer game. Activision hasn’t officially confirmed anotherCrash Bandicoottitle, so this PvP multiplayer may end up being added to theCrash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Timepackage. That’s just speculation at this time, however.

Several Toys For Bob developers have taken to Twitter to announce their departure from the studio, confirming that many of them left on their terms despite others being laid off.

Call of Duty: Warzonefans may be enthusiastic about the quality developers at Toys For Bob being put to work onWarzone, but this development shift shows an overall shift in direction at Activision. With so many developers working onCall of Duty: Warzone, other titles under the Activision umbrella may suffer.

Fans of theCrash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy,Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Toys For Bob’srecently releasedCrash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Timemay be waiting a while for the next remaster or sequel from the developer considering this major shift at Activision.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
