An Insomniac Developer has found himself an interesting and funny side project. Josh Leman, who assisted in the development ofInsomniac’sSpider-Man PS4andRatchet and Clank 2016, is currently developing a newRatchet and Clankgame inDreams, making this one of the rare occasions a professional developer uses the game to create their own public fan-project.
Leman is developing theRatchet and Clankgame with the help of assets created by theRatchet and Clankcommunity, and he’s been at it for some time now. Media Molecule, the developer behindDreams, just learned about the project and will be going live with Leman tomorrow, August 11, to chat with him about it and see how far along he’s managed to get.

Anyone interested in the live stream can catch it onMedia Molecule’s YouTube and Twitch channels. According to Media Molecule’s tweet, the one used to make this announcement, the casual interview will take place at 5 pm BST (British Summer Time), so fans will need to adjust for their specific time zones.
Leman’s project is humorous becauseRatchet and Clankalready have an official new game in the works for thePlayStation 5titledRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Considering Leman’s history with Insomniac, there’s no reason to think he’s not currently working on the game, so he’s essentially developing on twoRatchet and Clankprojects at the same time.
A lot ofRatchet and Clankgames created inDreamsexpectedly recreate past titles in the series. It’ll be interesting to see if Leman takes the same route with his project or if he decides to do something original. Since Leman is — again — likely working onRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart, maybe he’ll leave little hints and easter eggs to the game in his — should Insomniac allow it, of course.
Not much is known about Rift Apart at the moment. Fans aren’t even sure of its release window. Depending on how far along both it and Leman’s game are in development, Leman’s could double as an interactive marketing tool. Players could run around hisRatchet and Clankgame and possibly discover information regarding Rift Apart. It all just depends on why Leman’s creating it, and ifInsomniacwould use it that way.
Dreams' players have created a lot of cool things using the game. Someone even recreated Halo with it recently. Seeing how a professional developer uses the system to recreate a game sounds like an opportunity, especially since he’ll be using community assets alongside his own.
