Operation Deadly Omen feels like a second wind forRainbow Six Siege. Just when fans suspected thatthis long-running tactical shootermay have started running out of steam, Ubisoft introduced a plethora of new features, as well as changing a few of the core mechanics. Many are calling it the greatest seasonal update in years. Of course, with a new update also comes a new operator, and Deimos is already proving to be an exciting new addition to the roster.

It’s clear Ubisoft wanted to try and return toSiege’sroots with Deadly Omen, in an attempt to try and get away from the run and gun meta that has been dominating the game as of late. Not only have they succeeded, but Ubisoft also made a ton of much-needed quality of life improvements. All in all, this update is helping make the game more popular and accessible than it’s ever been. Here are the biggest changes players need to know about.

Locker menu in Siege

7Improved UI

The Main Menu Is Smoother And Easier To Navigate

The UI and main menu ofSiegehas always been slow, clunky, and unresponsive at times. What’s more, Ubisoft has seemed hesitant to try and fix it. Thankfully though, the general UI has been greatly improvedwith Deadly Omen. Each sub-menu is now much easier to navigate to, and there is far less stuttering when switching between them. This is especially noticeable in the operators' menu. Each character is now placed into their own playstyle categories, making it much easier for beginners to understand how they work, and who they might want to try out.

Ubisoft has also introduced the “Locker” menu, which gathers together all the outfits and headgear players have earned throughout their time playing. This is a much simpler way to scroll through and pick out customization options, rather than needing to click on every individual operator to see what they each have unlocked.

Player rappelling up a building in Rainbow Six Siege

6Faster Rappel System

Rappelling Is Far Less Clunky And Nowhere Near As Slow

The rappel is an important tool for attackers, allowing them to reach higher vantage points and create sightlines to pick off the enemy defenders. In the past, rappelling was a bit of a gamble because of how slow it was. However, it’s been streamlined with this update to ensure attackers don’t get caught by surprise when throwing it out. Rather than being forced to go through a lengthy animation, operators will now throw the rappel upwards while keeping their gun out, making it much faster and a lot more fun to use.

Vaulting and climbing while using the rappel is also faster now. Ubisoft have even gone as far as to re-work the mo-cap to make the operators' movements a little more realistic when entering a building. This wasn’t exactly a change that fans demanded, but it’s an appreciated improvement that helps matches feel a lot morefast-paced and exciting.

5Destructible Kiba Barriers

Azami Finally Gets A Nerf To Her Kiba Barriers

Ever since Azami was first released back in Demon Veil, there’s been ongoing discussions on whether her Kiba Barriers are too overpowered. These gigantic makeshift walls can be planted anywhere on the map. Because they originally couldn’t be destroyed with bullets, it meant these impenetrable blockades were an absolute nightmare for attackers to deal with. Ubisoft has made the decision to now make these barriers destructible with the use of regular bullets. Though they can still withstand a lot of damage, this simple nerf heavily impacts one of the most-used operators in the game.

Needless to say, Azami is no longer going to be the must-pick Operator that she once was. This is a much-needed change that helps to balance things out a little more. It also gives a chance for other trap operators, like Lesion and Fenrir, to be a lot more viable.

4Slower ADS Times

Makes Gameplay More Strategic And Methodical

A lot of players have had problems withSiege’smeta in the last few months; specifically, how it encourages aguns-blazing playstylerather than emphasizing strategy. Ubisoft knows this has become a problem. As a result, they’re slowing down the ADS time for every gun in the game, making gunplay more methodical and closer to how the game was played back when it first launched.

Siegehas always tried to separate itself from other FPS games by having a greater emphasis on clever gunplay and strategic thinking. As such, this beneficial change will ensure the game doesn’t turn into aCall of Dutyclone. At the same time, it means that three-speed attack operators will no longer run rampant in every match, giving everyone else a fair chance to participate.

3Shield Rework

Shield Operators Will Be Much More Formidable

Without a doubt the biggest surprise change inOperation Deadly Omenis the shield re-work. Whileshield operatorshave always been strong in the right hands, they might be even more effective now thanks to these new mechanics, making them a lot easier to pick up and play. Shield operators can now reload their gun and use equipment while hiding behind their shield. They also have the ability to jump through full health barricades without needing to whittle them down first.

That’s not all, though. Shields also now come with a knockback effect if their melee attack is used on an enemy. This will force the opponent into a prone position, where they will get a final chance to shoot the shield operator if they’re fast enough. There’s also now a free-look mechanic that lets these operators look left and right while holding out the shield in front of them. This allows them to scout out their surroundings without needing to move around their bulky shield in the process.

2Returning ACOG Sights

Attackers Are Finally Getting Their Precious ACOG’s Back

Some of the weapon sights are being switched around in the lates season, with there now being only four categories to choose from, these being; iron sights, 1.0, magnified 2.5, and telescopic 3.5. Defenders will have limited access to the magnified scopes, but will not have access to the telescopic scopes to ensure they don’t get too much of an advantage. However, the most exciting news to come from this change is the fact a lot of the attackers will now be able to use magnified and telescopic sights.

In other words, the precious ACOG sights which were so popular for attackers like Buck and Ash back in the day will now be usable once again. The slower ADS time does mean they won’t bequite as overpoweredas they once were, but this is still an unexpected addition which is so impactful that a lot of longtime fans are actually returning to the game simply to try their favorite guns out once again.

Deimos activating his DeathMARK drone

1Deimos

An Exciting Addition, with the DeathMARK Gadget and Devastating Revolver

The brand-new operator for Operation Deadly Omen is none other than Deimos, a man who swore he would take down every last Rainbow operator when he last made an appearance. Deimos comes equipped with Nomad’s AK assault rifle alongside the devastating M950A1 shotgun. This weapon is great for making rotation holes, or simply blasting away anyone who gets close. He’s also packing a .44 Vendetta Revolver which can melt enemies if players can get used to its wild recoil pattern.

Deimos' gadget, small drones known as DeathMARK Trackers, can be used to ping an enemy defender of the player’s choosing. Once the enemy is detected, Deimos and his victim will be able to see one another, creating a sort of rivalrywhich will last until one or the other is killed. It should be clarified that Deimos' target will only be visible to him and not his allies. But when part of a well coordinated team, he can be an amazing intel operator who can easily snuff out any roamers sneaking around the map.
