Pokemonanime fans who were excited to see Ash and friends explore the Galar region were disappointed to hear that the next (and currently running) anime season would not fully deliver. The newPokemonanime season instead has Ash visiting all of the previousPokemonlocations, though Galar is planned to be a stop, too. ForPokemon SwordandShieldplayers hoping for a more thorough tour of Galar, the news was frustrating. But The Pokemon Company has been paying attention, it seems, and now has a solution.

While Ash and friends may only be briefly stopping in Galar during the latest season of thePokemonanime, Galar will be a much bigger focus in an all-newPokemoncartoon. On Friday The Pokemon Company revealedPokemon: Twilight Wings, an online-only series that is said to be entirely set in Galar and Galar alone.Pokemon: Twilight Wingsis scheduled to air in January 2020 and will run exclusively on the officialPokemonYouTube channel.

Like otherPokemoncartoonsrun on thePokemonYouTube channel,Pokemon: Twilight Wingsisn’t really a full-fledged show like the Pokemon anime is. For one, these YouTube episodes will be much shorter than a normal 20+ minute television episode. Each ofPokemon: Twilight Wingsepisodes will be around 5 minutes long. The cartoon will also be much shorter overall.Pokemon: Twilight Wingswill only have seven total episodes. That’s just 35 minutes of animation overall, which is bingeable in one YouTube setting. But it’s better than nothing.

Some small details about the new cartoon were shared as part of the announcement. The show will focus on “the dreams of Galar’s residents” as well as the “challenges they must overcome.” The Pokemon Company also confirms that the cartoon will feature many of theGalar-exclusive PokemonthatPokemon SwordandSwitchplayers have met and now know so well. It will hopefully provide just the sort of deeper dive into Galar that thePokemonanime may not end up doing.

This isn’t the first time that The Pokemon Company has done a YouTube-exclusive show.Pokemon Generationsis an 18-episode series released through Youtube that showed off content and stories originally referenced in thePokemonvideo games.Pokemon: Twilight Wingscan likely be considered the progeny ofPokemon Generations, much like howPokemon Generationsspun out of the popularity ofPokemon ChroniclesandPokemon Origins.

Pokemon: Twilight Wingsbegins airing on January 15 on the official Pokemon Youtube channel.
