Despite all the obstacles, aPokemonplayer called Darkdragon1231989 finished a run inPokemon Shining Pearlusing only Shuckle. According to the gamer, they actually completed the game using this turtle Pokemon twice. At first, they traded after thefirst gym inPokemon Shining Pearlto get the creature. In a second, more recent run, however, they already started with Shuckle and kept the turtle-like Pokemon up until the end. Darkdragon1231989 also described their strategy to win battles. Most of the time, they used a combination of Rollout and Power Split to do enough damage to enemies, while improving defense with Defense Curl. Towards the end of the game, they leaned harder on abilities such as Substitute and Acupressure, though.

Most people in the comments were pretty impressed by the skill demonstrated by Darkdragon1231989, while others thought it was a pretty hilarious choice to pick this Pokemon. Paco-ramon, for instance, commented thatRock/Bug-type Pokemonwere a pretty strong combination for offense. However, that would be lost on Shuckle, which is ironic.

This player is not the only person to create a highly difficult self-imposed challenge to beatPokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Peal, though. A few months ago, a gamer called SouthWhell was able todefeat Elite Four with Baby Pokemon. SouthWhell’s whole team featured the starter Piplup, Gible, Shinx, Ralts, Riolu, and Houndour. While most of them are not among the strongestPokemonsomeone could use to beat the Elite Four, they had pretty good synergy, and the gamer was able to do it with the creatures on levels roughly around 70. While not as impressive as using only Shuckle, it’s still quite a feat.
