Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfans are theorizing that a new character from the Indigo Disk DLC, Lacey, is related to Gym Leader Clay from theBlack and Whitegames. There are a lot of ties to the Gen 5 games in the latestPokemon Scarlet and Violetexpansion, including the fact the setting for the DLC, the Blueberry Academy, is in the Unova region.
The Indigo Disk DLC recently launched alongside thePokemon Scarlet and Violet3.0.0 update. The expansion includes several new features and Pokemon, alongside story content that dives even deeper into Paldea’s mysterious Area Zero. However, as is customary with The Pokemon Company, the latest update also features several callbacks to older games and characters.
NewPokemon Scarlet and VioletNPC Lacey claims she is the daughter of a Unova Gym Leader, and fans think they have figured out which one. Given the design of her hair clips, many in the community believe she is the daughter of Clay,Pokemon Black and White’s Ground-type Gym Leader. Additionally, this would make her a descendant of Lian fromPokemon Legends: Arceus. Lacey is one of the first characters trainers meet upon entering the Blueberry Academy, and she is a member ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s surprisingly difficult BB League.
As the image shows, Lacey’s hair clips match the design on both Clay’s and Lian’s hats. Not to mention, Lacey’s team features an Excadrill just like Clay’s. The last piece of the puzzle is that Lacey is from Nimbasa City, which neighbors Driftveil City, the home of Clay’s Driftveil Gym. The theory seems sound, especially considering both characters use the same Pokemon, but the jury is admittedly still out considering the Unova region has the unique distinction of being home to 11 different Gym Leaders. The first gym has three different leaders that change depending on which partner the player initially picked, and the final gym leader is based on the version of the game itself.
In addition to this specific theory, many fans are running with the idea that the Unova callbacks in the Indigo Disk DLC all but confirm thatPokemon Black and Whiteremakes are imminent. Following The Pokemon Company’s release pattern, that makes a lot of sense, but no such announcement has officially been made. Still, with the lack of Unova-based creatures currently available in recent games, many believePokemonGen 5 remakes are likely before the Switch 2.
While remakes of the Gen 5 games seem plausible, some fans speculate that perhapsPokemon Black and White 3makes more sense. The Pokemon Company has already broken a longtime trend withBlack and Whiteby releasing direct sequels rather than a third version. Perhaps Pokemon could do the same by crafting yet another sequel rather than releasing remakes as with previous generations.
