The final phase of themassive Pokemon GO Throwback Celebrationhas finally arrived and players are currently working through the challenging tasks to earn big rewards. Although many trainers were able to unlock the final Special Research for free by completing all of the timed-research over the last month, anyone is able to participate in the last leg of the journey for a price.
The Throwback Celebration 2020 Special Research offers some of the most exciting bonuses and rewards yet and most trainers won’t want to miss these activities (or the chance toencounter some new Galarian forms in the mobile app). As of yesterday, trainers are now about to purchase tickets to the event throughPokemon GOand join in on the adventure.

The Throwback 2020 Special Research isn’t the onlyspecial event happening in June for Pokemon GO fans, but it’s certainly the biggest. Players may not be able to finish the Special Research this week, but remember that the ticket must be purchased now in order to unlock the storyline and finish it at any time in the future.

To purchase the Throwback Challenge Celebration 2020 Special Research, you must open Pokémon GO during the event from Wednesday, Jun 02, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, July 01, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in your local time zone. After you’ve received the Special Research, you can complete it at any time.
The ticket is US$7.99 plus taxes or fees (or the equivalent in your local currency) and can be purchased in the shop. The ticket cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.
Tickets can be purchased from when they go live until Monday, Jun 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in your local time zone. Stay tuned for when tickets are available to purchase!
The ticket for this Special Research is nonrefundable. (Subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service.)
How to purchase and access the Special Research
Here’s how you’re able to purchase a ticket for the Throwback Challenge Celebration 2020 Special Research when it becomes available in the in-app shop. Stay tuned for when it’s available.
Tap the Poké Ball icon, and then tap Shop.
Tap the Learn More button in the shop.
Tap the Buy button.
You’ll then receive a pop-up indicating that you’ve received a ticket for the Throwback Challenge Celebration 2020 Special Research.
After you tap OK, you can find the ticket in your Item Bag.
When you open the app during the event from Wednesday, July 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, June 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. local time, you’ll receive access to the Throwback Challenge Celebration 2020 Special Research.
Once you receive the Special Research, you’ll be able to finish it later if you don’t complete it by the end of the event.
However, for an optimal gameplay experience, we recommend trying your best to complete the research during the event.
