Summary
A talentedPokemonfan artist created an impressive animation of both Torterra and Umbreon. While thePokemonfranchise has taken some criticism over the years for its visual fidelity in its mainline RPG series, this artist has created a brief scene that looks as though it comes from a game that fans would very much want to get their hands on.
Torterra is the fully evolved version of the Generation 4 Grass-type starter Pokemon, Turtwig. Umbreon, on the other hand, is the Dark-type Eeveelution introduced alongside Espeon in the series' Second Generation. Umbreon is already available in the most recentPokemon ScarletandVioletRPGs on Nintendo Switch, but The Pokemon Companyannounced that past starter Pokemon are returning in upcoming DLC.

TalentedPokemonfan artist MrFrtc recreated both of these popular characters in an impressive animation. In the brief clip, Torterra is carrying a sleeping Umbreon through a forest landscape while other Pokemon such as Psyduck and Paras can be seen strolling through the background. While Umbreon is consistently recreated in various fan art projects as it is often seen as one ofthe best Eeveelutions, the comments seem to be generally appreciative that the artist shined a light on the sometimes underappreciated Turtwig evolution.
The artist has posted to Reddit before with amazing animations that they created in Unreal Engine. It should be noted that MrFrtc is making short clips, however, and not creating a full-length game using these models. Still, the scenes themselves look fantastic. This isn’t the first time an artist has already shown us what the engine is capable of, as one fancreatedPokemon RedandBluein Unreal Engine 5.
The scene itself looks as though it could be ripped directly from a trailer from thePokemon ScarletandVioletTeal Mask DLC. The lighting, textures, and models all look like something out ofNew Pokemon Snap. The landscape, the shadows, and even the background characters are all impressive from a fan artist.
The animation is so impressive that some fans in the community have even used this as an opportunity to call out the art and performance inScarletandViolet, but as the artist points out, the two are incomparable as they use Unreal Engine and Game Freak is on an older custom engine. Also, the amount of work that goes into a short animation as opposed to an entire game isn’t comparable either. That said, thesePokemonanimations are excellent, and the community is rightfully applauding the artist’s talent.
