Ever since thePokemonfranchise debuted, fans have been creating art based on their favorite creatures. Sometimes this fan art imaginesPokemontaking on new roles, with many artists changing Pokemon’s types.
Pokemonfan nina1wolf1 recently took to Reddit to show off their latest piece ofPokemonfan art, which imagines Vulpix and Ninetales as Poison types. Traditionally, Vulpix and Ninetales areFire-type Pokemon, so the switch to Poison requires quite the change in appearance. Both Vulpix and Ninetales are given a purple and green color scheme, with sludge and toxic gas replacing their tails and fur. The designs were likely inspired by other Poison Pokemon that have been featured throughout the series. If there ever were Poison type versions of Vulpix and Ninetales, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them look very similar to these designs.

Reddit user PokemonCMG added to nina1wolf1’s post by creating custom Pokedex entries for the Poison type Vulpix and Ninetales. The Pokedex entries giveVulpixthe attacks Acid Spray and Sludigfy, while noting that it was “found in a long-abandoned factory.” Ninetales, meanwhile, has Dire Claw, Scary Face, and Sludge Bomb, and it’s noted that its body emits “a deadly mist that is utterly toxic to inhale.”
While Vulpix and Ninetales are traditionally Fire-type Pokemon, The Pokemon Company has experimented with turning them into different types in the past. TheGeneration 7Pokemongamesfeatured regional variants, where pre-existing Pokemon could look different and have different types depending on the region that they are from. This included Vulpix and Ninetales, who were both given Alolan variants.
Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales are the opposites of their traditional Fire-types. Alolan Vulpix is a pure Ice-type Pokemon, whereasAlolan Ninetalesis a combination Ice/Fairy-type Pokemon. Like with nina1wolf1’s Poison-type concept, their Alolan forms look different from how they look normally, with white and blue fur instead of red.
Nintendo will be publishing brand-newPokemongames later this year in the form ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet. While unconfirmed, it is possible that the newPokemon Scarlet and Violetregion will include its own set of regional variants, so maybe fans will have even more versions of Vulpix to add to their roster. There have also been rumors that thePokemon Scarlet and Violetgameplay gimmickwill involve changing Pokemon types, which could very well result in new forms for said Pokemon. It remains to be seen if there’s any truth to these claims, but more information will hopefully come sooner rather than later.
