Having put out continual releases since 1997,Pokemon Adventuresis the second longest-runningPokemonmanga series to date, only coming behindPokemon Pocket Monsters. The series follows every protagonist introduced through themainlinePokemongames, putting a new spin on their lives and throwing them into new adventures and situations. It also implements more mature elements rarely seen inPokemon, such as death, which the manga inflicts on both people and Pokemon alike.
Unfortunately, the popularPokemon Adventuresmangaseries is going on hiatus. It remains unclear how long the pause in publication will be. Still, the reason behind it suggests that fans shouldn’t expect any new comic adventures forPokemon’s game protagonists anytime soon. More than likely, the series won’t return for a few months, bare minimum. It’s also very much possible that fans won’t see anything from the manga for the next couple of years, give or take how dire the author’s situation is.

To explain, Hidenori Kusaka, the author behindPokemonAdventures, is suffering from health issues. Like the hiatus timeframe, however, exactly what Kusaka is going through remains unclear. At the time of this writing, the only information available to the public on the subject states that he’s not in good health, which could mean anything from exhaustion to problems brought on by age or unfortunate circumstances. With luck, it’ll only be the former; Kusaka admittedly has been writing the manga for 23 years now.
Regardless, if the situation has driven Kusaka into hiatus, fans shouldn’t expect morePokemon Adventuresinstallments anytime soon. The track record for publications that go on hiatus over the author’s health has been, to put it bluntly, tragic. Since 2009,Hunter x Hunterhas gone on multiple hiatuses due to the health issues of Yoshihiro Togashi, its creator. AndBerserkcreator Kentaro Miura diedbefore completing the manga’s story, leaving Guts' adventures more or less unresolved.
Hopefully, Hidenori Kusaka makes a full recovery. It’s never good to hear how someone’s health is in such dire straits that it’s forced them to take extended time away just to try and heal. These kinds of situations typically imply serious conditions, and it’s unfortunate people have to go through such things.Pokemonfanswidely consider thePokemon Adventuresmanga to be the go-toPokemonmanga.Pokemoncreator Satoshi Tajiri even claims it reads like how he imagines himself writing aPokemonmanga, so it would be nice to see Kusaka give it a proper finish.
