Some fans however took issue with some aspects of these remastered ports.Some of the issues fans mainly revolved around the minimal changes made for the remaster. Alongside the visual upgrades being simple upscales using AI enhancements andheavily compressed audio inPersona 3 Portable, one of the biggest complaints is in one aspect of its gameplay. More specifically, the Persona Fusion system and its implementation of skill inheritance. It retained the system where players would inherit random skills passed down from their previous Personas, which required several tries to get the optimal skillset for just one Persona. What this mod does is make the skill inheritance part of the game’sPersona fusion systemcloser to what was seen inPersona 4 Golden. Instead of random skills being chosen for the new Personas, players will be able to chose which skills they will learn. The modder notes this isn’t a cheat, as the manual inheritance mod is intended to be a quality-of-life function that helps cut down on time instead of the player hoping for a good RNG roll.
AnimatedSwine37 notes that this mod was developed specifically for the Steam PC version of the game, meaning that the mod will likely be incompatible withthe PC Xbox Game Pass version ofPersona 3 Portable. They note the mod was already complex enough by recoding a lot of aspects for the Velvet Room, and that it would likely require a large rewrite to make the mod compatible with the Game Pass version of the game. Regardless, this mod is already being praised for being an essential download for this remaster.
There are rumors that afull-fledgedPersona 3remakeis in the works at Atlus, with it supposedly having improved mechanics and graphics that are on-par withPersona 5. This likely would include the manual skill inheritance mechanics, as opposed to them being randomly inherited. This however is still a rumor, so fans will need to take that information with a grain of salt until more is revealed.
