Overwatchfans have had about a week with the new Anniversary event, and in that time, its strengths and weaknesses have become clear. While some gamers are let down that a batch of recolors has been added in place of brand-new cosmetics, even going so far as tomeme Reinhardt’s new skin, there are several other upsides to the event.
The Anniversary Remix is the perfect time for newOverwatchplayers to give the game a try and for lapsed players to return. With nearly every skin released for the game able to be unlocked, and almost every brawl able to be played, the event provides new gameplay options every day and gives gamers a reason to log in. For that reason, it would be best to keep the Anniversary content coming until the official release ofOverwatch 2.

Why Overwatch’s Anniversary Remix Event Works So Well
The big thing setting theAnniversary Remixapart is its approach to weekly challenges. These weekly challenges give players the chance to unlock skins from hero challenges, letting them pick up outfits they may have missed like Nano D.Va, Bastet Ana, and Combat Medic Baptiste. While this will not be appealing to those that finished every hero challenge, those that missed out on a few of them will surely be thrilled to have a second chance.
With two more Volumes planned for the Anniversary Event, six more hero challenge skins will be earnable once again. Though this is exciting, it is worth noting that this will not be enough time to bring back every hero challenge outfit. While newer cosmetics like the ones from Cassidy andReaper’s hero challengescould be the ones left out, it would be great to see a fourth Volume added to ensure that these are also available again for those that did not play during their initial release.
Anniversary Remix also provides the best possible version of the arcade, as all brawl types are available. By having these change daily, gamers can enjoy new experiences whenever they hop into the Arcade. The rotation for Volume 1 has been excellent, too, asOverwatchplayerswill be able to play everything from Archives missions to Winter Wonderland brawls in the same week. Seeing everything from Lucio Ball to Junkenstein’s Revenge so close together is exciting, and for those who are just starting out, the variety of content could get them hooked onOverwatch.
Keeping the Anniversary Remix event going could not only ensure that the Arcade remains fresh, but it will also give gamers the chance to collect all the event skins they wanted but missed out on ahead ofOverwatch 2. If new Remix Volumes keep coming out until the sequel fully launches, players would have several months to collect what they want. Widening the pool of rewards makesLoot Boxesa lot more exciting, too, as by now a lot of gamers have likely gotten a majority of the normal skins and cosmetic items.
Blizzard focusing on the development ofOverwatch 2’s PvEand PvP modes means repetitive seasonal events for the original game, so the Anniversary Remix event is a welcome change of pace. By placing all the recycled content into one massive, extended event, players have a lot to play and enjoy. Further, Blizzard would likely have no issue adding more recolored Legendary skins in future Volumes, as these would take far less time and resources to make than fully new cosmetics. By keeping Anniversary Remix going beyond the three Volumes that are currently planned, fans could see content coming to the original game at a steadier pace. Even if this content is not truly “new,” it does makeOverwatcha lot more lively.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
