UPDATE:Orisa’s ability to inflict headshots with her Energy Javelin has been identified by Blizzard as a bug, which has since been resolved alongside several other issues, including some of Ramattra’s cooldowns, and how Sombra’s Stealth is detected.
Summary
The most recentOverwatch 2balance update gives Orisa the ability to headshot with her Energy Javelin. This buff was not mentioned anywhere in the new patch notes, which came as quite a surprise to theOverwatch 2community.
Recently,Overwatch 2rolled out a massive balance patchthat buffed every tank in the game. Orisa, the omnic defender of Numbani, was among these heroes, with her Fortify ability gaining an additional half-second to its duration. The damage reduction from armor was also doubled – a change that greatly aids Orisa, as she has a large pool of natural armor.
However, it seems likeOverwatch 2may have given Orisa another huge buff that wasn’t documented in the patch notes. During a recent stream investigating all the changes from the update,Overwatch 2content creator Flatsheard from one of his audience members that Orisa’s Energy Javelin can now inflict critical hits. He was able to confirm the new buff on the shooting range, with the Energy Javelin nearly killing Tracer from full health with a headshot without even dealing the extra damage from a wall pin.
Orisa’s Energy Javelin Can Crit in Overwatch 2
Because this change was not documented in the patch notes, it is currently unclear if it was intentional. It’s possible that Orisa’s Energy Javelin gained the ability to crit as an accidental interaction from other backend changes to the game, and that it will be reverted in the future. That said, if this was a planned change, fans who are able to land a headshot with Orisa’s javelin may be able to one-shot certain low-health heroes in the right circumstances.
Needless to say,Overwatch 2fans are terrified of this new Orisa buff. Likemany tanks inOverwatch 2, Orisa has straddled the line between being overpowered or irrelevant from patch to patch. Some of her recent nerfs have swung her towards the latter category, but players are afraid that, between a longer Fortify and critting Energy Javelins, she might begin dominating matches once again.
Overall, the reception to this recent balance patch has been mixed. While fans are happy to see underperforming tanks like Reinhardt get some much-needed love, others are concerned that changes to heroes like Mauga and Ramattra make them nearly impossible to kill. The community will have to see how these changes land once fans get more used to them, and will want to keep an eye on moreOverwatch 2changes made in response during the next balance update.
